Hi Guys...

I have Return to Krondor installed on a Windows XP SP3 laptop.
When I try to run the game an error occurs saying:

"An Error has been detected which prevents the game from continuing".

When I look in Event Viewer afterwards there is an Application Error with the data:

Faulting application rtk.exe, version 1.0.6.0, faulting module lgvid.ax, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000151d.

I have tried this game with Compatibility Mode off, Compatibility mode for 95 and 98.

Any other suggestions?
I haven't had any problems running the game in vista so I'm not sure what is causing the error but it could be with the opening cut scene.
Try opening the .ini file of the game and in the cinemats section change the line
"playback = 1"
to "playback = 0"
If the game loads then you are missing some video or audio codecs
you can try following the steps at:
http://www.moviecodec.com/audio-codecs/adpcm-codec-2018/
which might replace whatever codec you are missing (be careful if you try this!)

If this doesn't work or if your problem isn't with cut scenes then I can't help sorry.

Thanks, I think we can narrow it down to cutscenes as the playback=0 option allows it to load.
I have tried reinstalling the codecs as per the link you provided, as well as using the process to reinstall the Microsoft Indeo codec as I believe Indeo is what is used.
I still can't get the videos to play, even after installing the Free XP Codec Pack with ffmpeg.
This last installation can get the game to sometimes play the starting audio (but no video) so I guess I am getting further!
Success!! 15 minutes after I reached desperation point and e-mailed GOG support, I found a logfile in the RTK directory which claimed a conflict with a file installed by Thief 2.

I unregistered the DLL manually and now RTK runs. Thanks again for your help grainne6, I modded your post up to boost your rep :)
I have that kind of problem too. How do you fix it? Can you tell me please? I have installed Thief 2 too before.
