I have Betrayal in Antara original version on 3 CDs. It works more or less in WinXP but there are some compatibility issues, the most serious of them being that the movement speed and turn speed is far to fast. The game speed is normal, overally, but when I touch left/right arrow, the view spins around several time at a dazzling speed.

Thus, my question, aimed at people who have played GOG's version of Antara is whether this issue has been fixed, meaning the movement and turning speed is normal?

I remember having that same problem when I tried to play Antara on a newer system. Even setting step and turn rate to minimum didn't help. While I can't speak for everyone, GoG.com's version seems to fix that issue for me. Another alternative, if you were wanting to play your own version, would be to find a program that (temporarily) slows down your computer. (CPUKiller is one such program, though there are free alternatives as well).

I am not very fond of using slow down programs, while they do slow down the parts they are too fast, they most likely slow down everything else (and as I mentioned, except the movement speed, the game runs fine).

If the problems are fixed in GOG version, I guess I'm buying it.

I have no problem of buying the game a second time, as the price is merely 6 USD. I just didn't want to buy the game only to find out it has the same issues as the original version.

So thanks for the info.
I just bought the game, and it works well on my i7 Windows 7 64bit system. However, combat speed is very slow. Also, the graphics turn pink when the game changes to nightime. Any ideas on how to speed up combat?
I am a new user and these post are now old

I played Betrayal at Antara when it first came out under Windows 95 (I think).

I am having exactly the problem described by Sid311

KenrilZ said that the GOG.com version appeared to fix the problem - however it hasn't.. Running Antara under DOSBox has actually caused this problem because it certainly was not this fast in 1995?

I am also not happy installing a program to slow down my computer. It is likely to cause more problems.

Can DOSBox be changed to control the mouse speed?

Does anyone know?

BiA doesn't have a DOS version which means no DOSBox or are you talking about BaK?
The Download PAGE does NOT appear for BAK package. One more game that can NOT run on W-7 Pro and quad processor. I am ashamed that I cot suckered into this again.

I played Betrayal at Krondor from GOG on Win 7 Pro and a quad processor with no problems at all. Haven't tried Betrayal in Antara yet though. Maybe there are issues running that?

Thanks, Krondor runs OK, with some tweaks. W-7/64 sys, Quad cpu. I went to config (F-2) and slowed the system, and turned off some of the features. HOWEVER, BA Antara will NOT run as it is missing SIERRA>ERR file. It did not get downloaded, after several attempts, so copied said file from Krondor and pasted into Antara. It ran for an hour. Now, the fie is gone in BOTH game directories. Perhaps, a virus checker removed it, as there WAS a virus detedted in some of the DL from GOG. Told them about this VIRUS last year, and it appears it is still out there. Not a very dangerous or flagrant virus, but it may be a KEY-LOGGER or similar. Had ID stolen from one of these and it is NOT FUN. Took six months to regain some of what we lost.
Again, thanks for the post. Will try shutting off the System Monitor, et al....
