I attempted to copy kq5 and kq6 (gog version) over to a computer with dos 6.22, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the original config files setup for them. KQ5 runs but sound doesn't work, and KQ6 says "audio could not be initialized" and then freezes. Is it possible to convert the dos games on gog to work in pure dos? I think if I'm going to pay for classic dos games, I should have the option of running them on the type of hardware they were originally intended to run on.

Have you made sure that you're sound card is working when you're running pure DOS? And are the IRQ, IO & HIGH DMA addresses set so that the games can detect your sound card? If you want to run the games in pure dos, you get to deal with the headaches that come with configuring everything to work correctly
