Just wondering if theres a way to play these old games without having to rely on ScummVM. I didnt notice it at first but when I was checking a walkthrough video for 4 as I'd gotten stuck, I noticed some sound effects and music hat werent happening in my version. I skipped back and realised all the previous KQ games had the same audio issue. I stopped playing at KQ5 because of the same missing audio sounds. Its not limited to KQ either. I fired up Quest for Glory and straight away missing audio. I cant for the life of me figure out why these games are acting like this on my system. I've tried so many ways to fix it and after a year I'm done with it.

So is there an alternate way to load these games. As it stands I'll have to watch videos of these games and others instead of play them and that just doesnt sit well with me. Any help appreciated.

You can run the games through DosBox. It'll be a little more complicated to setup, but quite doable. Keep in mind that the original installers were removed from the GOG versions, so you might have to edit the resource.cfg files in some of the games to get the audio working correctly, and you'll need to make sure the right drivers are there. If you're not comfortable with editing files and running things through a DOS environment then this might not be a feasible option for you.

You could also go to the ScummVM forums and explain that there are missing sounds and see if they have any suggestions

Thanks. I'm used to editing files so thats no problem. Knowing what to put in them is another story. I did make a post on those forums a couple years back but didnt get much help with my problem. I placed another one today in the hopes maybe someone different will have an idea. I'm starting to wonder if all the changes I try to make to fix things dont apply properly because of some GOG setting in the config file.
Well this is funny. I installed the latest version of scummvm and fired it up and the sounds are working for both games. Where was this version back when I was having issues. I'm happy either way.
