up till today, the game was working just fine but today it suddenly started to ask for the cd. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it is still asking for it. I do have the cd so that is no big deal but I do let's play's and the speakers on my laptop are right next to the cd drive. I would rather not have a cd buzzing sound during my recordings.

Anyone know how to fix this?
I have this problem too. Yesterday the game worked and today it gives a no disk error. There's been no change with the computer.
Hi guys,

Yes, this problem pops up for me too. It seems random but also goes away by itself too. It looks like it's just one of those quirky things. It's working right for me now and I can't make it fail but if you want to try something, try editing mask.inf in your KQ8 folder. You should see
Drive=.\data\
Try changing it to the full Pathname of your KQ8 folder (wherever you installed it) plus the \data\.
Example: Drive=D:\GOG\KQ78\KQ8\data\

Don't forget the last backslash or else it won't work. Then, as an extra check, put a copy of your new mask.inf file in your data folder just in case that helps.

Expectations?
I'm afraid I don't really expect this to work since someone must have tried this before and it's a quirky quirk.

Other options:
I think you can stick in any CD / DVD. You don't need this particular game on disk. Otherwise just click through all the warnings and see if the game starts after them all. It did for me but I forgot if I clicked "try again" or "cancel" or "skip" or whatever those three options were. I think either one that's not "cancel" should work. Yes it's very annoying but it should work. If the above doesn't work, then I don't think I'll be able to fix this bug.

Good luck,

PS: I don't see anything helpful in the registry under Sierra or GOGKQ8
Also, as stated elsewhere, a virtual disk in a virtual drive should work to bypass this issue although I know not everyone is setup to use one or comfortable with the idea of using one.

If you run a virtual drive like say Daemon Tools, its can get around this, its especially needed if you have a netbook that doesn't have a cd drive.
