After the initial CD-ROM releases, there were two additional releases on DVD-ROM, one for Mac (bundled with the new Macbook, but not with the Enhanced graphics, since this Mac couldn't support them), and one for Windows, with Enhanced graphics and MPEGs. Are we getting the CD or DVD version?

Yep, it's been confirmed that it is the higher resolution DVD version.

Huh? I thought the only Enhanced version was the OS X version released just two years ago.

From what I've read, that's really an Mac-exclusive enhanced version of the original DVD-ROM release of the game. The main thing they did in the Mac version is make the already high-res graphics of the original DVD-ROM release even higher-res than they were before.
As I understand it, there were... 5 releases of the game:

Mac CD - low res
PC CD - low res
Mac DVD - low res, only difference is that it's on one disc
PC DVD - high res
Mac DVD enhanced edition - high res

The first four were in the time of the original release, the enhanced Mac DVD edition was more like 2008.

I purchased and installed the game last night. Runs fine, although it took TWO HOURS on fast settings to d-load,integrity-check and install the game! it;s a large file. I went to the ad for the enhanced version comparing the low-rez/enhanced shots, went to the same place in my game and my game absolutely matches to the NON_ENHANCED version. I have options set to max, have a good PC so there's nothing wrong with my specs...my game does NOT match the visual quality of the ENHANCED version...no way.
GOG did respond to me,stating that this was the enhanced version, but to me...no it;s not...it looks like the same game I played in 1996.
I'm not saying they're not being truthful...it's just that I compared the same place in my game to the screen by screen comparison used in the ad for the orig. enhanced version...and my game is NOT matching the enhanced version.
That being said...for $6 I got a great deal, and am able to replay what for me was a classic. That;s six or seven games I'd never have been able to replay without GOG,so they're good by me :-)
And,if there's a way to make my game lok better that I'm not aware of...I'd welcome it! It's STILLa good loking game, regardless

Well that sucks a bit. It's consistent with Riven and Tex Murphy Overseer though...
After consideration,it might very well be that my LCD screen does not handle older graphcis as well as the old CRT monitors did. Wierd, but possible. IT's stilla great game and I'm glad I can replay it...that's why GOG is so frikkin great. I've bought 7 or 8 games from these guys already for almost less than the cost of a NEW game!

It is most certainly the DVD version. Given what game adverts are generally like, I'd sooner accuse the advert of being fake. (ofcom make publishers over here put 'not actual in game footage' at the bottom of tv adverts these days when they try that sort of stunt, thank goodness...) The only other alternative is that all your movies are playing back at half resolution for some reason, which would be rather weird to say the least.

Edit: Or your LCD could be being silly, if you think it's that. :p

Possible, but unlikely, seeing as most of my newer games look splendid on my LCD. I think perhaps, then that the "enhanced" advertisements was a bunch of BS when the enhanced version was released? GOG emailed me a screen comparison so when I ge to that point in the game I'll compare myself.
I cant expect an odler (even possibly enhanced) game to compare with today's graphics;I've got to constantly remind myself. Which is how I;ve gotten to enjoy older GOG games that I've replayed for the first time in years. Look past the old-school grfx and enjoy the story!

How can you tell?

Not at all unlikely considering those newer games will almost certainly be running at the native resolution, which makes a big difference on LCDs.

Unless you're running your monitor on centred mode, the picture is getting scaled and that will make things a bit blurrier regardless of whether this is the enhanced version or not.

What exactly does "centered" mode mean? I havent adjusted my monitor set up since I purchased it several years ago.

Well an LCD has a fixed number of pixels, right? Centred mode displays lower resolutions on 1:1 pixel basis in the centre of the screen instead of filling up the screen (which necessitates spreading each pixel of the picture over several pixels of the screen).
It would have to be. I own the original on 4 CDs. CDs are 700mb each.

4x 700mb would be 1.4gb.
The installer files alone (betting on some compression) is 3.2gb
Thirteen posts about resolution and not one mention of what the resolution happens to be? LoL...;) Obviously, what was considered "high-res" in ~'07/'08 will not be considered "high-res" today. It would be interesting, however, to know what the actual resolutions in both the high and the low-res game versions actually are.
