Is there a way to store equipment in Jagged Alliance (in both original and the sequel)?

I usually put it all on the floor in the airport in drassen (in JA2), as that's pretty easy to hold onto. I've heard that if you leave it in an area that enemy soldiers pass through it might get stolen.
There's an inventory view in the map mode, so you can load and unload equipment without having to manually walk up to it and pick it up.

Ok, I have finally found (ok, I am stupid) that you can equip and de-equip your team members at the beginning of each day.

At the beginning of the day you can choose and drop inventory and permanently get rid of it. Inventory needs to be on your mercs bodies at the end of the day to make it back home. What you leave in a sector stays there, perhaps the enemy can pick it up.

I choose Drassen airport the moment I captured the nearby SAM-site.
The moment I take Chambria and it's SAM-site I move everything (not too much yet) there.
In Chambria I use 1 sector for weapons and ammo, 1 for armor and supplies and 1 for other stuff.
As cashflow isn't much of a problem anymore I remove everything I don't need instead of selling or stashing it.
That's solely JA where you have to try to find a balance between what to take with you and what you expect to find.
Especially at the beginning of the game when you want to take everything home with you.
