Hi all

Just bought JA2 from GOG after reading all the good things about it, and after installing it, it ran and loaded the home screen without issues. However, after installing the 1.13 mod I can run the INI and set all the options, but now when I start the game I see a black screen for a few seconds before dropping back to the desktop with the following error:

JA2 Fatal Error

File : \sgp.cpp
Line: 761
Location: InitializeStandardGamingPlatform
Initializing Virtual File System failed

I'm running it on Windows 10 and have tried some other fixes as advised in other threads/forums, but none seem to work. Has anyone else come acroos this or has any suggestions?

I suppose I could unistall the lot and just play without the mod, but is sounds like I will really miss out :(

I'd try reinstalling both the game and the patch following these instructions.
It's particularly important that you install the game outside any protected directory such as "Program Files", because I suspect a possible permissions' issue in the launch error.

Release 7609 does not come with libraries intended to fix issues under win8&10,
like the newer releases that are available at http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=282&
(check the \docs folder in unpacked archive)
besides tons of features were added since the last 4 years.

You are right.
I posted that link only as installation guide, not as source of the latest release of the mod, but installing the most recent version is surely advisable.
