Also can't save. Did anyone ever fix this?
Hi,

Hope someone still looking at this topic. I just bought Ion Fury and wanted to run it using eduke32. Downloaded eduke from the dukeworld link, tested it with Duke Nukem 3D (gog version) which runs smoothly, so I grabbed Ion Fury and immediately ran into a problem. I can extract the package just fine, put it in the proper folder, eduke32 finds it but when I start it I get the following error message: Alert Error compiling CON files. I've looked at the log files and saw a few errors, for example:

Including: scripts/player.con (346852 bytes)
Including: scripts/base/subroutines_player.con (7907 bytes)
Including: scripts/exp/player.con (2508 bytes)
scripts/player.con: In event `EVENT_LOADGAME':
scripts/player.con:2734: error: symbol `MAXLEVELS' is not a variable.
scripts/player.con:2736: error: symbol `MAXVOLUMES' is not a variable.
scripts/player.con: In event `EVENT_PREUPDATEANGLES':
scripts/player.con:3003: error: parameter `EVENT_PREUPDATEANGLES' is undefined.
Including: scripts/screens.con (41852 bytes)
Including: scripts/base/subroutines_screens.con (4036 bytes)
Including: scripts/exp/screens.con (316 bytes)
Including: scripts/menu.con (42154 bytes)
Including: scripts/base/subroutines_menu.con (6059 bytes)
Including: scripts/exp/menu.con (401 bytes)

Googling was not the solution this time. Hopefully someone ran into the same problem here. Thanks for all the help!

If someone else has the same problem with the CON error in the future: extracting the files from the linux installer solves the issue, game runs fine now (saves are working as well) with the exception of polymer and polymost renderer, but that was expected.

I’ve had the same issue with Windows installer, that’s been updated to the version 2.0. IIRC Linux installer has not been updated (at the time I’ve checked) and that’s likely why it’s running fine.

My hypothesis is that eDuke Mac version is outdated vs 2.0 updates - both are early October, but perhaps we’re missing some updates in the build. I’ve been checking new build availability and would try building myself in the next few weeks if we don’t get one.
Quick update: EDuke32 first-party build are still stuck in October 2021, however MacSourcePorts (an awesome site that provides signed/notarized Universal builds of classic source ports - check them out!) has published EDuke32 build that works with Ion Fury 2.0 update.

I've updated my guide to cover that and the settings you need to get it running on macOS: https://github.com/boggydigital/mac-gaming-guides/blob/main/games/ion_fury.md

I've tried the MacSourcePort's version and I can't run it because I am on High Sierra (10.13). Not in the position to upgrade since it's an older mac and I need to keep a stable system.
Is anyone able to make a build like MacSourcePort one but compatible with High Sierra?

I stumbled upon a build compatible with earlier MacOS' completely by chance, while searching for a compatible quake source to run Hexen 2. Nquake.com linked me to this ftp: https://6464.at/~rhoenie and there it was. Works well on a 2009 macbook pro running Mojave, though display options are pretty sparse and Polymost is as pleasing as a wet fart. The intense environmental detail must put Build under the gun. Classic mode is smooth as glass though and everything looks and sounds great. I'd long abandoned getting this gem working on my machine and count myself lucky.

Hopefully this helps you or someone else out there.

Edit: I've tried getting the link to format right but the forum's markup system is borked and it autocorrects to this, apologies.

Thanks I'll try this one out! I also emailed the Macsourceport guy a while ago, asking if any builds for below 10.15 were possible. He wanted to look into it but has no timeframe.
So fingers crossed. Maybe by that time I've already upgraded to M2.

I tried and sadly it doesn't run for me, crashes at startup. I only recently bought Ion Fury and I heard the latest updated game doesn't work with the old mac port. Sooo guess I have to wait for a version from Macsourports that works on the older systems.

Oh, that's a pity! Had my fingers crossed for you, thanks for the update. Did you put your vanilla Ion Fury files in "/~/.config/fury/"? I just dumped the whole lot in there, including the exe. How about any of the other builds (hiding in the _OLD folder)? There are a number in there dating back to 2019, perhaps one of those could work for 10.13. The only other suggestion I have would be to use dosdude's patcher to upgrade to mojave. I can vouch for its reliability, my machine is already 2 OS versions beyond certification; necessary for some software, including OpenMW and other sourceports.

I'd be quite interested to hear if you find another legacy-compatible port in the future, good luck and all the best.

I tried every possible combination of putting the files in the folder with the app, placing it within the app itself, placing it in all kinds of eduke32 folders (~/Library/Application Support/EDuke32 according to the ion fury mac os guide linked earlier). The app still won't start. I know it should work on this system because I don't get the warning that I need OS 10.15 at least. "/~/.config/fury/" I also tried but still no luck.
I think the problem might be the game version is too new for the old port. So now I have to find someone who could compile a working build.

Thanks for the help & tips, if I find a working build I will post it here!
