I have a windows 7 64-bit machine, when I try and run IW2, I get a black screen for about 5 seconds, which then minimizes itself and returns me to my desktop. You can see the program down on the taskbar, but if you click on it, it just brings the black screen back up and the only way to exit the program at that point is to kill the process in the task manager. I have tried setting the program compatibility to Windows 2000, like I saw suggested in another thread, but get the same results. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Anyone out there have a similar problem?
One thing I noticed on XP is that when ALT-Tabbing I-War 2, you have to do it a few times to get it to come back up on top. That was with the GOG version and also with my CD version. I think what I'd do, after ALT-Tabbing out, was to ALT-Tab in to I-War 2 (blank screen), then out again (blank except that the taskbar would be visible), and then click the program button on the taskbar. That would usually bring it right up again.

I know you're not ALT-Tabbing but I'd have to do the same thing any time the game got minimized from, say, accidentally pressing the Windows key or some other Windows alert.
Thanks for the reply. I gave that a shot but it didn't seem to work.]
There should be a log file called 'flux.log' in the IW2 folder. Might be worth posting that as an attachment so we can take a look and see if there's anything in there out of the ordinary.

I've attached the flux file.

Thanks.

That's odd. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit also and am running an Nvidia GTX 260 and the game seems to start just fine.
Try setting it to Windows XP (service pack 3) Compatibility mode and run it in admin mode. That fixed the initial loading problems I was having.
I'm having a similar issue. Have tried changing compatibility between winXP and win2000 but hasn't made a difference.

When I run the game it goes to a black screen with the i-war 2 yellow cursor. I can move the cursor around, but the game never goes any further. Anyone else know of any fixes?
Tried installing the game outside the Program files Folder? Older games like IW2 save stuff in the install folder instead of My Documents, which Windows 7 doesn't like if the game is installed in the Program Files area. Running as administrator can help but it's best to install old games outside of Program Files folder.
Thanks Ravenger - I tried that, but still no go, suffering from the same issue. I thought since nobody else seems to be having the issue that perhaps it was a fault in the download, but the file integrity checked out okay. I'm running short on ideas. :/
yes im having the exact same problem. im running windows 7 64bit with a NVIDIA Geforce GT 630M. looked everywhere for solution and still no luck.

I had big problems to run IWar on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I forgot that I've set DEP for all programs and since I've added exception for iWar's EXE file then all problems are gone. Maybe Win7 64-bit has it blocked by default and you need to add exception?
The problem I had was the game would start the first time then after I closed would refuse to start. I fixed this by pressing CONTROL_ALT_DELETE and right clicking the "loader.exe" process and then selecting "End Process Tree"

After doing this the game would load.

Just startet IWAR2 under win7 64bit, but i still run my cd version...bought years ago.
Does the gog version includes the 14.6 patch ? This reminds me, that a folder has to be deleted, otherwise IWAR2 won't start.

EoC Patch Ver F14.6 - 10 October 2001

The latest patch for Edge of Chaos is now available. For details of changes made please click here.
Download File Size 6.2MB

EOC GERMAN LANGUAGE : Some features from a future graphics upgrade for the game accidentally made it into the latest patch. This didn't cause any problems when the patch was tested, but it seems that on some user's setups it can cause problems.

To fix it simply delete the following folder from the game:

<install folder>\resource\images\planets

This will disable the feature that's causing the problem.

Particle Systems apologises for the inconvenience this has caused

I hope, that it will help some of you, to get this nice game works ;-)

/edit:

Maybe you should take a look here: www.i-war2.com/downloads.htm
Scroll down to the headline 'Particle Systems', there are some good mods !
Use the multimod-mod to run more than one mod at a time :-)

Enjoy

I get this same issue, except it doesn't even minimise, the loader.exe application just stops working and closes itself, meaning I can't get the game running :(
