Does anyone knows if there's a way to enable widescreen resolutions on IL2?
Thanks!
This question / problem has been solved by Aliasalphaimage
looking at this, it looks like a basic INI modification, just load in notepad & change the width & height, set the colour depth & tell it to save the aspect ratio.
Thanks! Appreciated!
no probs
Setting the width to 1280 and the height to 800 just gives me black bars on the left and the right... It seems stuck in 4:3 :|

It should give you bars in the menus, but expand once ingame. You may want to press Page Down to increase the FOV to Wide to improve sideways visibility.

I've got the same issue. Make sure you set SaveAspect=0 in the conf.ini file - this should help.
If you download the newest version of IL2 Shturmovik Stab from mission4today, not only do you get historical markings and realistic gore, but you also get the ability to custom set the resolution to whatever you want. Just a thought if you're looking for an alternative.
Yeah, very important that you pull your view back via PAGE DOWN. Otherwise you lose visibility.
Two things I've always had with IL2 Sturmovick and I highly recommend is Sturmovick Stab and Lowengrin's Dynamic campaign generator.

I tried doing this for my monitor (native resolution 1366 x 768) and this didn't work; my problem was not black bars but just everything stretched out horizontally, both for the screens and in-game.

Changing the conf.ini files didn't help and the game basically keeps setting resolution to 1024x 768 and stretching it out. The only way to avoid the stretching out is to go into windowed mode which doesn't look too good.

RE: The latest Update offering widescreen.

Okay: A "solution". I had to select another resolution (640x480), view it and refuse it, THEN rechoose the 1680 x 1050 res which showed up when I went back to the interface screen.

So basically, if you let the game select what looks like a correct resolution (or even select it yourself), it won't actually be change anything unless you bang around with some other resolutions first.
