I tried to connect with a few VPN options, but nothing was working. Then I tried TeamViewer VPN and it brought it up right away.

I'd recommend using TeamViewer VPN if you can't seem to get into any games with your friends.

i just can't seem to find any game at all when i click multiplayer

Do you have somebody hosting a game?

If you do and you can't see them with TeamViewer, then you may have to find other VPN software or perhaps tweak some router/network settings.

Also, make sure everyone is using the same version of the game.

For multiplayer on open servers, most use a utility like Hypperlobby. There is another one, but i can't think of it's name for the life of me.
