Anyone else lagging horribly when you cast an AOE spell and then have the framerate crawl slower than bullet time? In other IE games, I normally activate the OpenGL 3D Acceleration for spells and the game runs fine. However, there's no option for that in IWD2.

Only solution is to disable DirectDraw and the game runs smooth. But is there a way to activate OpenGL within the game itself? I see a 3D Acceleration = 0 in the config file, I put it to 1 but once I run the game, it sets back to 0.

Also anyone playing with Max HP/Level Up? I completed IWD1 without that. Feel dirty with it, but it seems to be on by default.

From what I know, it has to be disabled from DXDiag or the graphics card control panel. The increase in hit points is sensible, with that option on... you'll be a hero not using it.

But consider that many in BG actually saved and reloaded in order to get high hps from level ups,so bad they needed them. Personally it's one of the matters I've agreed to look the other way about. You can always be strict about other stuff: multiclassing, ECL races, no min-maxing stats.

I see this is a rather old post, but this question now concerns me also. I wanted to turn on the hardware acceleration to get all the better effects like *the real* translucent fog of war etc., but it seems it doesn't work that easily. Changing the zero to one in IWD1 config file worked, but in IWD2 the game just resets the value to 0.

This source (http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Icewind_Dale_II) claims that hardware acceleration was removed (as in didn't exist in the first place) from IWD2. Does someone in these forums know more about the subject? I'd be glad to have an answer whether it was good news or not.

Yes Icewind Dale 1 uses OpenGL for 3D effects like smoother fog of war, but for time constraints the developer removed OpenGL for Icewind Dale 2 unfortunately.
