I usually play without reloading to get better random items, and just stick with what I got. This time however, I'd like to get the for my Fighter->Mage the chainmail armor that lets you cast mage spells while worn.

What are their locations? There are 2 of them; both random. One is Kylessa in Severed Hand. And the other?

I did some googling for you, since I don't care about hitting spoilers for this game. They both seem to be in the same dungeon complex.

Looks like one is possible random loot from Kaylessa (Sheverash Tower, First Floor).

The other is possible random loot in the Solonar Tower, Third Floor. Let me know if you want a little more specificity.

You probably already know that the loot is rolled when you first enter the map where the loot is located, so keep a save just before you enter each area if you want to try a reroll.

Thanks. I tried googling but wasn't sure what the armors were called.

I assume the second one (other than Kylessa) is Elven Chainmail of the Hand +3?

That's what I'm seeing.

Fair warning: I haven't actually played much more than the first few areas of IWD, so most of my knowledge is second hand and google searches.

OK, this seems to coincide with what I remember.

By the way, why not?

Did you play the classic or did you only start with the EE now?
If you want to know locations for certain items, you can use these sites:

http://mikesrpgcenter.com/icewind/index.html
http://www.gamebanshee.com/icewinddale/armor.php

There are others too, I just can't remember them in my sleep deprived state.

Thanks. I looked at the mikesrpgcenter before asking here, but the armors don't seem to be on it.

I looked at gamebanshee too (it's my #1 choice for BG, IWD, NWN resources), but couldn't tell from the description if Elven Chainmail is what I wanted.

Just haven't gotten to them. Played on a friend's machine a little back in college, and I have since acquire a few non-EE versions from various sources, but I haven't prioritized playing through them. Part of it is also a lack of the blocks of time to really get into a play session, since I could be pulled away at any moment.

I can relate to that...

Anyway when you can, do give it a try. On my fifth run now, the first since... 8? 9? years.
While I like BG more, this is a really great game too. You get to build the whole party and has great dungeon crawling with a pretty decent story.

Don't get me wrong, it is a lot of fun, and I know I'll enjoy it when I get to it, but broken 5-20 minute sessions don't really contribute to a good experience for these games. Both of them are definitely on my list of games to complete one day. :)
