Anarchist_Peasant: And I haven't seen any gay stuff yet either by the way. I did have a woman cook in this Iron mine ask me if my party was going to shag her though. Should I be offended? Or is it only gay stuff that is enraging?
There aren't a lot of "gay stuff" in Baldur's Gate. You seem to complain about this "homo" stuff then ask us if you should be offended? That alone can be answered by yourself.

I won't be surprised if your next concern would be Viconia's skin color.

Anarchist_Peasant: I'm into Cloakwood, going through a dungeon looking for Davearon or sometihng like that, of the Iron Throne I think its called. I'm really enjoying BG1. It captures a sense of adventure in a Tolkein kind of way so well. Yet, I can't say the plot has really grabbed hold of me. I always hear the sequel is where it gets really good. Its certainly been a lot of fun, but it hasn't shown me why its better than Pillars of Eternity. In fact, and this is not to aggravate the die hards, its made me want to replay PoE again really badly. I really enjoy their statistics. But I wish we could write all the character biographies like in Wasteland 2 and Icewind Dale. And I haven't seen any gay stuff yet either by the way. I did have a woman cook in this Iron mine ask me if my party was going to shag her though. Should I be offended? Or is it only gay stuff that is enraging?
No, I can't remember any pro-homosexual stuff in either BG 1 or BG 2. Both are great games. However, there are some brothels later in the city of Baldurs Gate, so be aware.
In response to your original question, I have not played POE, but I would highly recommend the IWD series, especially the first. The setting and music are great, plus you can create your own party. After I finished the game, I made a cleric heavy party to see how much of a challenge it would be. With 6 character slots, the possibilities are many.

Lebesgue: I don't play EE versions of BG (even though I own them) but it seems that the new versions (2.0 and higher) are quite buggy again. You can get more info about BG:EE on the Baldur's Gate forum.

And it is not true that people complain about EE just because of the political correctness.I simply find it a poor copy of the original. Again, just go to the BG forum to see all the complains about the EE versions that people have (not the expansion which is separate issue).

ZellSF: 1: There was an attack campaign on the game and quite a few bug reports were because of that, not because of genuine players running into bugs that actually impeded their experience in any way.

2: Many of the bug reports were specifically for the expansion, not the base game.

3: 2.0 was a major update, it's bound to have some new bugs. They're at 2.3 now and most of the bugs have been fixed.
avatar
Lebesgue: I always suggest playing the original versions rather than the EE versions.

ZellSF: If you can deal with the many inconveniences of the original (and there are definitely a lot of people who can't), then definitely go for it. Playing the original game as intended first and saving modded/enhanced versions for later reruns is definitely a very good way to go. Good thing is, if you buy the enhanced edition from GoG you get both versions.
Would you mind telling everyone how you came to "know" that "quite a few bug reports" were due to an "attack campaign", and please give us an an exact breakdown -- which shouldn't be a problem since you "know" this is true, right?

And please give us a precise breakdown of the bug reports for the enhanced editions vs the bug reports for Beamdog's new expansion, and explain to us how it would be possible for them to make "enhanced" editions that were truly enhanced, rather than half-baked remakes, when all of the original game assets were destroyed.

Thank you.

I know because I read user reviews when the expansion came out.

Do you really think there would be more bugs in a patch than an entire new expansion? Do you really think people will not lie when they're on a political crusade?

That is the stupidest thing I've read today. Right... 'user reviews' never lie.

He's already stated that they do. But I guess those were "bad" reviews. lol

dtgreene: Gay stuff, if it is encountered, should not offend any reasonable person, so there is no reason to be offended by that. In fact, I am more offended by you complaining about "feminist pro-gay content" like it's a bad thing.
It is a bad thing when it is done poorly.

The dragon age games and the Mass Effect games does this well. SoD....not at all.

Anarchist_Peasant: What about IceWind Dale vs Temple of Elemental Evil? Which game is better? Seems like both are the shit when it comes to combat. How do you think those two compare?
Ohhhhhh no. ToEE has the most fun battle system/character level progression of any game I've ever played. It is incredibly fun.

Just make sure you get the Circle of 8 front end, which fixes the bugs.

Another couple games you left out that are great based off the 3 you mentioned: Arcanum, and Fallouts 1 &2

The mods didn't seem to get the screen working properly. That game looks brilliant to me though.

Which mods?

Circle of Eight modpack is all you need. I prefer the NC (new content) version because the original felt too short .... plus the orig lvl cap was 10, while the Co8 pack increases that to 20.

I haven't played it in 2 years and on my last laptop, but I just got the itch again so I'm installing and activating the Co8 now.

A couple things on installing:
1.Make sure you read the installation instructions right after the user agreement page.
2. Make sure you pick the right directory - it defaults c:\Temple ... when it should be c:\GOG\Temple..... (at least mine is)
3. Installation didn't take me long. After though you need to click the box above whats highlighted (the reg game) to highlight the modpack box, then click activate at the bottom. Activation can take awhile (5-10 mins for me).
4. After all that use the option menu at the top to set up the game how you want.
5. From now on always start the game through this frontend, not the direct ToEE shortcut.

Ok, mine just finished. I'll try it. If mine is screwed up I have something else to try.
Ok, got it.

After you have Co8 installed and activated, get and install Temple+

http://www.moddb.com/mods/temple1/news/temple-10-released

It dl's and installs very quick, works with Co8

Should fix your problem.
I forgot how hard it was to set this game up right. Mine at first wouldn't even start, then I got it to start but it would CTD right when the loading bar got close to finished ... it's a problem with the games videos. You either need to change your graphics card to "no scaling" or change your desktop resolution to the closest resolution in Co8 and set the same there under options. I did both to be sure and it works fine now. Start the game in Co8.

Sorry, I mean Arcanum was the game that looked so amazing to me of the ones you recommended. Funny thing is they just released the game on Steam and I got the mods to function properly there. It was probably my fault on the gog end of things, but it went pretty smoothly. I've been in Tarant for a about a day. I really enjoy it so far.

That ToEE game looks fantastic though, and I do mean the visuals. I don't know if I'll ever play it, but the graphics are great. I think I'd rather go with IWD:EE though. But I loved PS:T. What I really have grown more and more curious about is NWN2. MotB is adored, rpgcodex thought SoZ was way better than it was given credit, and some people swear by the modules in that game. But I'm kind of iffy on it. Sometimes I'll see posts from fans that says it was all about the multiplayer and the community, and if you didn't play MP you didn't even play the game.

I always get a little distracted before I beat any lengthy game by other games. Age of Decadence, Underrail, IWD, KOTOR, and Fallout 1 or 2 are all games that I'll get to eventually I think.
