I've had no issue with IWD running in Windows 7, since installing it yesterday, but now I am having a strange issue with save files.

Actually, when I started the game yesterday, it wasn't allowing me to rewrite save files - only create new ones. I later noticed Win7 had made the entire folder read-only, and have disabled that, so that I can write over saves. However, today, upon running the game, I found all of my save files missing.

I quit and restarted, hoping it was a fluke, and mistakenly started up the game normally, rather than running as administrator. Magically, all of my save files were present! However, upon trying to load one, the game crashes (since I am not running as administrator). However, when I run as administrator, my saves are absent.

Clearly, my saves are hiding in there somewhere... does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue, so that I can resume playing?

Thanks in advance!

The files should be in the virtual store :

C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\ App Name

If you've been running the game as Administrator you must keep doing it. You can 'reveal' your files by going to the save game folder and click the Compatibility Files button :

For older games, it's best to avoid installing into Program Files altogether to avoid problems like this.

Thank you! Unfortunately, no Compatibility Files button is present, but my save games are showing in said folder, so I figure at this point I can reinstall the game outside of Program Files, copy the save files out of this Virtual Store into the new directory, and everything should work fine finally.

So again, thanks for helping me find my files!

Did this work? I just uninstalled and re-installed the game, and now all of my saved games are gone, despite copying said saved files into the directory.
