Hello,

I installed Icewind Dale Complete on a system with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installed. The specifications of my rig are:

Asus K52J series laptop configured such as
Intel Core i7 740QM
4 GB DDR3 Ram
ATI Radeon HD 6370M 1 GB
500 GB HDD

The problem is, the intro and the main menu of the game are fine, however, as soon as the game starts, it's ultra laggy as if this is a 386DX machine.

Fiddling with Config, changing in-game Graphics options, Compatibility Toolkit fixes, ordinary compatibility (Windows XP SP3) and "run as admin" modifications for idmain.exe etc. just do not make a slight difference.

What am I supposed to do, can you help me please?

Thanks in advance.

I re-installed the game on C with the installer being run as administrator.

I didn't touch any config other than the usual stuff. I fired up the game, created a character swiftly to see if anything is new. No. It's the same old choppiness.

Another symptom I have noticed: No sound in-game.
SOLVED.

Winamp failing to playback along with no sound in Icewind Dale got me thinking about whether they had anything to do with the aforementioned problem.

I changed default audio format from 24bits, 192000 Hz to 24 bits, 44100 Hz and ALL problems gone. Icewind Dale running silksmooth.

Please note if you have similar issues as well.
I don't know why this worked, but it did for me - although I had no problems with sound prior to this (and changing the setting made no difference). However it might also have been when I gave complete permissions to everyone to everything in my Icewind Dale folder which, among other things, permits the config settings to be changed properly.

I am running Windows 8 x64 (same as Windows 7 in most ways), using the Widescreen mod at 1280x800 (so the characters are not so small), and running the game as Administrator.

Note, to change the default sound setting, go to playback devices (rightclick audio icon in taskbar), select your device and open properties, and it is under the advanced tab.
