Okay I'm planning a new game of both of IWD 1 and 2. I must admit I'm not as familiar with IWD 2. I've only played it once and I figure I owe it to myself to play it again. I just wanted to get some feedback on my party. I'm not as comfortable with 3rd edition rules so hopefully I didn't make any massive errors here. First let me say that I'm definitely into the roleplaying aspect. I want my party to be good but more importantly fun and interesting with a good mix of race and classes. Exception to this is I'm not not a fan off odd class combos for the sake of power. So no monk/paladins or something like that.I also don't like putting a 1 or a 3 in a stat. I understand why its done but it just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, this is what I got so far:

Male Half-Orc Barbarian

STR 20
DEX 18
INT 6
WIS 10
CHA 6

-Was planning to keep him pure barbarian using great swords.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Female Shield Dwarf Battleguard of Tempus

STR 14
DEX 10
CON 18
INT 8
WIS 16
CHA 10

-Using hammers and axes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Human Rogue

STR 16
DEX 18
CON 14
INT 12
WIS 10
CHA 6

-I'm a big fan of rogues. Dual wielding sneaky guy. Was going to keep him pure.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tiefling Monk

STR 14
DEX 16
CON 12
INT 10
WIS 18
CHA 8

-I just think monks are cool.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Male Aasimar Sorcerer

STR 10
DEX 14
CON 14
INT 10
WIS 12
CHA 20

-Spell Slinger

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a hard time figuring out what to use for my last character so I'm not sure about this. But I figured I would make a dedicated archer. Open to suggestions.

Female Wild Elf Fighter

STR 12
DEX 20
CON 14
INT 8
WIS 12
CHA 10

-Specializing in Long bows

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There we go. So any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks a ton.

You forgot to write the CON for the barbarian.

I think you could lower by 1-2 points the CHA of the Shield Dwarf and add them to STR.

For the last character I would prefer a bard or a wizard, but if you want a fighter based party, don' t change it.
Your party will work. The rogue would be better with higher strength and lower wis and the monk would be better with lower int and cha and higher str. Int, wis and cha can be considered useless for your barbarian and fighter, definitely not useful enough to accept lower physical stats than necessary.
Thanks for the response. Yea I don't really have an issue with lowering charisma for some reason. Its only when I'm lowering intelligence or wisdom to a 1 or 3 that it bothers me. I definitely appreciate the feedback and I made the changes suggested. I'm going to turn the pure fighter into a fighter4/wizard x that uses longbows. Does that sound like a better idea? I'll re-post my party here in a bit. Thanks again.
If you create a fighter/wizard choose a specialist school, I recommend diviner or transmuter. It's a good idea having someone with high int in the party for the skills.
Alright guys, I wanted to post an update on my party and get some general feedback on any improvements I could make. Overall this party has been very effective and a blast to play and I'm just getting ready to fight the Guardian of Chult. But I get confused on what item combinations I should use per character to optimize AC, attack rolls, defenses etc...So I'm going to post each character and how they're equipped. I also have a ton of stuff in my bag of holding as well cause I don't know what to do with it.

Okay that's it. Like I've said I have a ton of extra gear as well and I'm just getting confused and overwhelmed trying to figure which character should get what since you get all these different AC bonuses. So again any help suggestions would be welcomed. Just trying to learn what I can so I can get better. Thanks.

Last I checked, unless they changed it, Clerics, such as a Battleguard of Tempus, use Cha as their main stats, but I could be wrong. Its been so long since I've played IWD2...And I would have went with a Wizard instead of a Sorcerer, probably an Evoker to be honest.

But otherwise, you are good. Though, Rangers make better bow wielders than Fighters.
Hey thanks for the response. One example of my confusion is with my rogue. I've got him wearing the ring of the warrior and the gauntlets of weapon skill. Both of these items add a +2 collectively to attack bonus. Is it worth filling two item slots to add a +2 to my attack? I dunno. I also have him getting his deflection bonus from Sulo's hook which also has a -2 to attack. So my off hand attack and damage rolls are pretty bad. Am I better off using a ring of protection and putting a nice +4 short sword in my off hand? Its these kind of issues where I'm not sure what I should do. Just trying to maximize my AC, attack rolls, and damage.

I am not sure the effects stack. I never used such effects. I unleashed hell with two wizards and a druid. The Ring of protection would be a smarter approach with the +4 shortsword, or use a bow with the rogue as I do. My party is usually magic heavy. Two Wizards, a druid, a Rogue, a fighter and a Paladin, and most of my effects come from rare treasure.

Clerics and Druids always used wisdom. Any charisma buff you may refer to, applies only when using Turn Undead skill.

There's alos nothing that makes Rangers better than Warriors at using ranged weapons. In fact - warriors get a good deal more of feat points so they can quickly get all "Rapid Shots" and "Precise Shot" bonuses. And you have to have 4 warrior level to get a 3rd level profficiency in any weapon.

Does your rogue have "weapon finesse: short blade", or whatever that feat is named? With 25 DEX he should be cutting like a machine. You should also use very light armors, so that you can get the most AC bonus from your Dexterity, then you won't have to worry about AC and maximize +Attack and +Damage. Also when your Rogue is under attack some kind of tank should take the pressure of him, as they're not meant to fight toe-to-toe (Rogues, that is). They should always try to hit from behind for maximized damage.

Honestly - a rogue should not have any problem hitting with ranged weapons and short blades, unless the feats and items are all wrong.

Sulo's hook is a terrible weapon, in my opinion, I don't know why would you ever sacrifice attack this much. In the Aurilite Fortress there's a "Battle Squares" game, or whateve it is called. One of the rewards is a +5 Short Sword that ignores armor and shield... now THAT'S a rogue weapon.

The party I'm going now with makes the game feel too easy, I'm already thinking of moving them to HoF:

Human Warrior(4) / Barbarian(10) - Main Tank, uses Great Swords and Spears, hits like a truck on meth. 4 levels of warrior only taken to get 3rd profficiency point in weapons.

Dwarven Warrior(1) / Battleguard of Tempus (13) - Secondary Tank, provides all physical bonuses, resistances, snap heals, casts animate dead and when all this is done he hits like a truck with axes, hammers and flails. Warrior level taken to get 1st level profficency of all martial weapons.

Human Sorceress (14) - team leader, I do all the talking with her, she also has the highest Arcane Knowledge and Alchemy, so she loots items, identifies and keeps them all in bags. As a sorceress she of course casts all the offensive spells.

Tiefling Warrior (13) - This guy is nothing else than a machine-gun-bow. Any feat that helps shooting faster and deal more damage - this guy takes it. He's not a critical character by any means, but he shoots so fast that his presence is always felt in any combat. Not to mention a good critical to the face with an arrow can interrupt a spellcast.

Halfling Druid (14) - Healer, dispeller, buffer. When all his important spells are cast he shapeshifts into a 30STR Dire Bear and wreaks havoc.

Tiefling Rogue(2) / Bard (11) - Bard songs are just too good to pass up. 2 rogue levels taken so that my open lock, disable device and spot skills are a little higher, but after that it's all about singing. She also wields the Doom Bolter crossbow, casts haste, invisibility, some silence and hold spells too.
