I am experimenting as I go but just wanted to know what spells you all are loading for these 2 classes?

Especially to deal with huge packs guarding casters.

I don't use Clerics much, so can't really comment on their spell list. Instead, I tend to have a Druid in the party and use Entangle and Spike Growth a lot. At low level, a Mage spell I like to use for crowds of non-undead is Sleep. Others I really use a lot are Grease and Web as my starting spells in most battles. Other crowd control favorites, depending on the enemy are Stinking Cloud, Hold Person, Emotion:Hopelessness, and Coudkill. Fireball is a great one to lob into the mass of Entangles, Grease, and Webs as well. Of course, you only have so many slots per level, so you have to decide which ones you like best, and you need to leave room for things such as Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Improved Invis et al. Experiment with some battles and see what works for your play style.
