I am using the 1st level start characters, I feel about most way through the first chapter and some parts a pretty tough, but I am getting through it.

Current party is Fighter, Ranger, Cleric, Bard, Thief, Mage.

I am thinking about using an editor to replace the Bard with a druid or paladin to help with heals or tanking.

But, my questions are, does it really cost that much to get stuff identified in town in the long run without a bard?

Will I miss the spells/song from the bard. The first song seems pretty week and I just use a bow when not casting spells.

Would be nice to have another tank or healer.

Should I duel spec the bard into a fighter after I get enough lore for identify?

Whats my options here, I don't want to start over or change too too much.

For RP reasons I went with the Ranger instead of Palandin and kind of want to keep it that way. So I am leaning to a Druid if i make a switch.

Personally, I'd drop the Ranger and pick up a Druid, but I have a real weakness for Bards. That being said, if you want to drop the Bard and replace it with a Druid, you won't be really missing out on much. You'll gain a secondary healer who can act as a secondary tank as well, and you'll lose the Bard's Lore (replaceable by the Identify spell via your mage) as well as arcane spells, but you'll gain some of the awesome Druid spells. Not a bad deal.

If you keep the Bard, be aware that Bards cannot dual class. Like the Paladin, they're stuck as a single class only and cannot be combined with other classes either via dual or multi-classing.

Oh, and you don't need to use an editor to replace the Bard. When you start your game, you can delete the Bard on the screen that shows your party members (just prior to the game firing up) and just roll a Druid. Just be sure to strip the Bard of all his gear when you save the game prior to doing this.

*edit* One more thing: I'd recommend exporting your Bard before doing this, just in case you decide you want him back after trying out the Druid.

Awesome thanks, so cool to get great forum responses so quick on a game this old :)

You didn't mention song, so are the songs weak?

They're not weak per se, as they have their moments where they can be pretty useful, but I find the issue is the Bard can do nothing else while the Song is active or it stops the effect. I'd much rather use the Bard to sling spells and/or fire ranged weapons. But the 11th level Song (Song of the Sith), which heals, really rocks. With that Song active after a battle, you don't need to use healing spells and you don't need to stop and rest. All you need is a couple heals ready for use during battle (just in case) and you can free up your divine caters' lower level slots for something else.
If you want free, quick healing a Bard is a much better choice than a Druid or a Paladin once the Bard gets War Chant of the Sith.
