Hi, i'm trying to play the game Hotline Miami in spanish, but it only works in english. I downloaded the windows installer spanish, and in the launcher, i select the spanish language, but the game works in english. What am i doing wrong? Thank you very much.

Thank you. I've tried, but it keeps working in English. I don't know if it will important, but when i installed the game, i could not launch the game because it lacks OpenAL32.dll, then i installed the .exe file of this post:

How about uninstall/reinstall?

I've fully uninstalled the game and reinstalled in this PC (Windows 7 SP1 64 bits) and another one (Windows XP SP 32bits), i've redownloaded the windows installer in spanish and french, and i've tried to launch the game in several languages (i've done this to check if the problem was only in the spanish language), and always the game has worked in english. I've opened the hotline.cfg file and the language was already in the number 3. It did not work.

I don't know what else to try. Is it possible that the problem is in the installer or in the launcher file? Anyway, thanks to the two.

I had a similar problem some days ago with another game. I tried to download the english version, but got the spanish one instead. It helped to click on one of the other languages and then on english again. Downloader found the correct file to download after that.

Wait a minute, are you trying to run the "Original Version" of the game, selectable at the lower right corner of the launcher? If so, the original version is English only, no matter what language you choose. You have to swap to "Updated" to get the other languages (see screenshot).

I have already contacted with them. At the moment they has not got fix the problem, but I hope that they succeed. I've tried this with and without the downloader mode, but the game has keeping in english. No, almost always i've selected the updated version. I have only loaded once original mode, by testing.
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if it is the version that I use (2.1.0.6), or I just have bad luck, but I have the feeling that I am the only person to which happens this with this game. At least, only i have this problem with this game.

That's really odd.

Let's try circumventing the launcher:

- Go to My Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami and open hotline.cfg with any text editor.
- Make sure that: language=3
- Save and close the file
- Now go to the game's installation folder (usually \Hotline Miami) and start the game by double-clicking HotlineGL.exe

Finally, the game has worked in spanish!!!. Following the advice of GOG support, i've created a new user account in windows, and i've downloaded and installed the game using it. Although the first time the game has worked in english, the rest of the time it has worked in spanish.

EDIT: I see that this solution already DeMignon me advised two days ago, and I do not know why, when I tried to install the game on another computer it didn't (as it did not work on another computer, i did not try to create a new account). Today I tested it, along with other things that GOG support has me advised, and it has worked. Even, I'm back to install the game on another computer and it has worked me to the first. I guess when you have a bad day, there is no way that things work.

Hello, i had the same problem and decided to investigate. The problem is a bug in HotlineGL.exe that tries to read the wrong file because of a locale/encoding problem. The path to the game configuration files of the game is
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami
My username is Tomás so in my case the path is
C:\Users\Tomás\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami
And it happens that HotlineGL.exe has problems because of the spanish á character of my name.

To view the problem i used the microsoft program "Process monitor" available here for download

Whith this program one can configure a set of filters to view the events caused by a program. So i added the following filters to view what files was the program trying to access:
Program name is HotlineGL.exe
Operation contains File
Path contains My Game

In my case, process monitor reported that HotlineGL.exe tried to read the file hotline.cfg with the following path
C:\Users\Tom᳜Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\hotline.cfg
that is obviously wrong. The funny thing is that the problem only happens whith the file hotline.cfg and the other files are read and writed correctly. Moving the hotline configuration files to the folder C:\Users\Tom᳜Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\ resolved the problem, but this should be a temporary fix until the developers fix the bug.
