I get resolutions up to 1280x1024 32-bit in the setup menu, but I'm running a Geforce 8800GT on a 1680x1050 monitor (XP SP3, latest drivers). Interestingly, when I set the Geforce to scale with aspect ratio, it does so with every resolution except 1280x1024, which is stretched no matter what I do.
Any suggestions?

Anybody? Am I missing something obvious?
Dunno about the GOG version, but I have the original, and in hardware setup mine has 1680x1050 which it is set at and what I play it in. But it does chop off the bottom of the screen where you build your craft on Antaeus.

Are you using an NVIDIA card, ATI, or something else?
Using nVidia 8800GTS.
What driver version are you running? Maybe I just need to downgrade.
I'm using the 177.83 drivers that come with the PhysX drivers.
Hmm. I believe I was using those before I recently upgraded to 178.13, but I upgraded *after* I installed Hostile Waters. Doesn't look like it's a refresh rate glitch either (just checked that). Does anyone know of a way to force the resolution using a command line switch or a cheat?
I have a difference of WS resolutions between my work PC and my laptop. On my laptop, possessing an ATI 1600 chipset and a 1280x800 screen, the widescreen resolution shows up. On my work PC, with some nVid card and a 1680x1050 screen, only standard aspect ratio resolutions show up.
To be honest, I ended up using a standard res on my laptop anyway, as the widescreen mode ends up cutting off a big chunk of the top and bottom of the screen, including some of the controls in the war room.
Also, I have both system set to scale up the picture, but maintain the resolution aspect ratio.
Sounds like 1280x960 is the way to go after all. I wish 1280x1024 would keep it's aspect ratio, but I guess I can't be too picky with a game as old as Hostile Waters is.
Sucks to hear Hostile Waters is V-.
At least games released these days are H+, but too bad they aren't as good.

Still a lot of V- games around. Far Cry 2 was released a day or two ago and is V-. Bioshock was originally V- (though I think they patched it).
What irks me is when they make V- and neglect to ensure the GUI is at least fully accessible, as seems to be the case with Hostile Waters. That's nothing but sloppy.

Considering the market (or lack thereof) for widescreen pc displays at the time it was released, it doesn't surprise me too much. It's still disappointing, though, given the otherwise stellar graphics and attention to detail. Maybe this will motivate someone to write a patch (crosses fingers).
