I'd never heard of this game until I joined GOG, but after seeing some good comments about it here I decided to try it for my free game. I'm really glad I did.
Its the kind of original game you don't often get these days. Its basically an RTS, but its played from the viewpoint of your units, any of which you can directly control at any time. The AI is good, the story and setting are original and interesting, the voice acting and characters are excellent.
Even the graphics seem to have aged pretty well, with lots of effects, small touches and nice animations. It even gives you nice picture-in-picture views of your units.
You can issue orders to other units in real time while in direct control. Its a great system, but the game is too frantic to use it often, so you usually end up going to the (paused) tactical menu. This can occasionally break up the flow of the game. The only other real flaw is that some of the later missions turn into "kill everything on the map" slogs which feel dragged out. But thats only 2-3 of the 20+ missions.
All in all, a great game... though i wish Ransom wouldn't keep TRYING to get himself killed!
