I'm asking about the ORIGINAL King's Bounty, not the new one. I figured this was a better board to ask than the King's Bounty board.

I have a copy of HOMM Millenium Edition - I got it many years ago, but never really got around to playing the games seriously. Now seems like a good time to start. I always play series in order, and this collection includes King's Bounty, so I have to play that first.

I think I'm about halfway through the game. I've fully explored Continentia and Forestria, I've been promoted to Marshall, and I am seeking a bounty on Rinaldus Drybone. My current forces are no match for his, so it's time to hire some more troops. But I have no idea what to hire, and money is too tight to play guessing games.

He has:
A multitude of Skeletons
A horde of Zombies
Many Ghosts
Some Vampires
A few Demons

I have found populations of pretty much every unit in the game EXCEPT:
Barbarians
Archmages
Vampires
Demons
Dragons

Who should I hire, at this point?

Huh, whadda ya know. (Guess i should have figured, seeing how similar they are in various areas.)
Shortest version: forest critters.

It's been a long time since I've played it, but as I remember I generally found it best to keep my army small and expenses low while exploring all 4 continents; if you haven't gotten as many artifacts as you can from the other 2 continents you may want to do that first.

Then after the initial army phase, I generally went for elves, druids, and whatever shared morale/alignment, other forest creatures, whatever. As I said, it's been awhile. Basically the strongest ranged troops I could get plus whatever worked with them for morale.

Then finish with either overwhelming numbers of those, or pick up the high end critters from the last continents. It varied a bit depending on just how many dens of each creature type you could find.

Now i want to play this again and I've no idea where my disk is. Bleh.
