I've been playing recently a bit HoMM3 HD on Steam. But, alas, it lacks all the addons and mechanics game received over the years, so I am thinking about Complete edition.
So my questions towards GOG version would be:
-Do I still need some sort of hamachi or similar service? Steam version works out of the box, we can join each other through friend list of Steam itself, no pretend LAN and other stuff like that. (I tried searching, but this is my first time on GOG forums and ui confuses me; when I tried searching there was a post "just be in the same LAN" which would indicate I DO need some sort of external software, if we're not LAN sharing)
-How's the quality? I see some stuff about wrappers and whatnot - so I need to download some more stuff for game not to look pixelated?

So in general - will I have more hassle with this game over HD edition on Steam? Which looks smooth on 2K monitor and works online without any issues. I didn't had to neither install, nor configure anything else but the game itself.

Answer to all questions.
One thing I don't understand there - compatibility.
It says, this mod is not compatible with Restoration, Armagedon and Chronicles.
Does this mean those campaigns won't work with this mod or does this mean I cannot use this mod with standalone version of those addons, but should still work fine with the Complete edition?
To be fair, I am mostly looking to play multiplayer for 3 people with all additional content that was introduced in add-ons (which is unavailable on Steam version I am playing right now).
The HD-Mod should work with the Complete edition versions of the expansions.

You can make it work with the Chronicles too, but it involves extracting the relevant Chronicles files and then make a Custom Mod in HoMM 3 Complete. Well worth the effort, IMO.

This only means it doesn't work with the game versions 1.0 through 3.0, not the campaigns themselves.

It is designed to work with Shadow of Death 3.2 and Complete (4.0), the latter being what you get on GOG.
Thanks, everything works. I bought game twice, but using offline installer to omit Galaxy launcher, we connect via direct ip as we're in the same network.
Game works fine, only issue is with seeing how many units there are on heroes and cities.
