Maybe, but last time I tried, it crashed after about 10 turns.

Try to set affinity to 1, it seems it crashes far more often on multi-core setups. See:

It doesn't ever crash in SP, and I use Windows XP. It was definitely a problem with the multiplayer code.

Well, I've been playing the game in Windows 7 x64 via Hamachi and it worked. I experienced crashes from time to time but as they occurred, like, only every couple of hours, I could live with that.

Around 3,500 to 4,000 multiplayer games of HoMM 3 are played on GameRanger each day. You'll have no problem finding players.

As a side note, the next update of GameRanger will automatically force HoMM 3 to use a single core, in case this does help with stability.
