That's hard to say, after all these years...

I think that once you learn 1) the numbers (how many creatures in a "pack", how many in "lots" etc.), and 2) the relative strengths (or at least levels) of the creatures, it's not difficult.
It depends heavily on what map you play. Some are quite easy, others are damn hard. Also, keep in mind that King's Bounty is purely about tactical combat, and while you have that in HoMM as well there is also a heavy strategic component, which may make things either easier or harder for you, depending on whether you're more of a strategic thinker or a tactical thinker.
I'd advise you to start with the tutorial and then play campaigns from "packs" in order they were produced:
1) Restoration of Erathia (the original game)
2) Armageddon's Blade (1st expansion)
3) Shadow of Death (2nd expansion)

Campaigns from RoE are mostly dead easy, computer rarely attacks, buys buildings only every other turn etc. You don't want to start with expansion campaigns, they happen to be much more difficult.
Thanks everyone for the tips and posts I bought the game and playing I love it! so addictive so far not too hard im very glad I purchased this game
Glad you like it! It's one of my favorites.

Scroll through the forum's back pages and look for tips on certain races/factions, or use the search, and you can shorten the learning curve a ton. Check out the armor sets you can assemble to get super duper powers, and get a feeling for some of the simple main strats each faction has.

If I were you, I'd play enough of the first campaign to feel comfortable, and then just play sandbox games from there out. You will learn more, faster. Pick one side and play it so you feel pretty darn good with it, and then go through other factions doing the same thing. You'll probably wind up with one or two huge favorites and most of the time play them. But it's fun finding out which ones they will be.
