So I'm probably the only person who prefers the MIDI version of the music in Heroes 2 but it doesn't seem to work at all. I can choose MIDI in the settings in the DOSBOX version of the game but it doesn't play at all. There's no option to choose MIDI in the windows version whatsoever. Do I need to configure something in the dosbox? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Use 'Launch Settings' shortcut in Start Menu (if using offline installer) or in Galaxy (if using online client). Press '1' to change music preference from CDAudio to MIDI and then '3' to save changes. After that you should hear MIDI music in main menu (just checked)

unfortunately, this doesn't work for me. I what you described but when I enter the game, there's silence instead of music(unless I change to CD of course)

I bought it today so I guess I used the most recent one.

I don't know if this is relevant but I have had other versions of HoMM2 installed on my computer in the past(MIDI music can't seem to be available in my 2002 HoMM2 Gold version from CD Projekt either despite the fact that it had worked on my previous systems(mainly XP) ).
Have you tried changing MIDI driver in the same settings app? From Roland to i.e. Sound Blaster?
Do you have a dedicated soundcard in your PC?

I changed it to Sound Blaster and the MIDI is there. Extremely low quality but I'm gonna play around with different drivers and see what works best.
Thank you so much for your help and sorry for my incompetence - I have no experience with DOSBox

You now have some more ;)
I don't know why default settings didn't work for you, unless you have some specific sound / soundcard settings system-wide everything should work :(
