Basically HoMM2 only reads save files in GAMES folder of game's root directory and ignores GAMES folder inside cloud_saves directory.

Is there a way to fix this? Copying saves in and out of cloud_saves to switch between my desktop and my laptop kinda beats the purpose of the feature.

Personally I've never had any problems with the cloud saves. Are you running the dos or windows version? Do you have any mods installed? Maybe try reinstalling the game and Galaxy.

It's fresh install on my laptop, but I have the same issue on my desktop. I'm running version 2.1 of the game, windows one (if that's the one that doesn't open DOS box).

The windows version doesn't have cloud saves. The cloud save feature was retroactively added to all dos games by gog. The default version gog installs is the dos version while the windows version is categorized as an extra.

Hmm, believe it or not, turns out Polish game version which I'm using *IS* Windows version by default and there is no Dos Box version! So I guess it's impossible to have both Polish and cloud save and I have to switch to English.

Though it does seem strange for gog to make that choice as they are a polish company themselves. Maybe there just doesn't exist a dos version of the game in polish? Maybe it was added later on and it wasn't worth the effort to implement it in the dos version aswell.
