I have just purchased HOMM5 but unfortunately I cant start it

When I load either the main game or one of the expansions, it shows the splashscreen and then minimizes and nothing happens. If I try to open the minimized game I see a black screen for a second and then the game is minimized again.

I tried to run it in compability mode. No luck there though. Searched for similar issues on Google. But no luck there either. I also reinstalled it after downloading it again, just to be sure.

My OS is Win7 64bit

Researched a bit more and found out, that if you click repeatedly during the splashscreen it will load. Something with the intro being buggy.

I'm having the exact same problem...and this is not the first time I've bought games from GOG and something crashes right off the start . Wish they would do their frigging homework better before releasing a game. I also get a "Failed to set display mode" error. Thoughts?

Found a solution for same issue on Windows 10. Works both for HoF and ToE versions:
Go to the folder with executable file of the game.
Right-click the executable and select "properties"
Select "compatibility" tab and click on "change high DPI settings"
Check the first check-box in Program DPI section
Apply all changes and run the game.
