Hi everyone,
I am posting this in the hopes that it may help others who are experiencing issues running Heroes 3 and/or Chronicles. I have Windows 7 64 bit and have heard many others say they are able to run HoMM3/Chronicles with no issues, however I was crashing each time I tried to run either of these. I would start the game and briefly see a frame or two of the intro movie with choppy audio. The screen would mostly stay black, and I could hear the main menu music in HoMM3 but was unable to see anything. Fortunately, the HD mod for HoMM3 fixed this, but this does not work with Chronicles so I remained unable to play those chapters.
Then it hit me: I have Nvidia Shadowplay active! It is not setup to automatically record anything - I only record video by manually entering the hotkey combination. However, simply having it active was preventing these games from running. I went into the "GeForce Experience" menu, disabled Shadowplay completely, and now the games are running fine!
I advise anyone else experiencing issues similar to mine to check if you also have Shadowplay active, and if so, disable it and try again. Good luck!
