I highly doubt that GoG will support original game without expansions. It's quite rare nowadays but original HoMM 3 CD release (from February 16, 1999) sometimes can be bought on ebay or amazon. I bought it on ebay for example

What is the purpose of including it without the expansions anyway? You have all the scenarios and campaign of the base game plus more scenarios and campaigns. Maybe to see the menu backgound with the arcangel? Maybe it is possible to change it manually if you replace the image with the one of the original game.

I believe there is one single player scenario that wasn't included in the Complete edition but I'm sure someone has that uploaded somewhere, the intro videos to Armageddon's Blade and Shadow Of Death are not included too, but once again they're on YouTube. Other than that, as far as I know, the features added in the expansions do not interfere with the other expansions or the original game, basically, when you play a Restoration Of Erathia campaign or scenario, it will follows the vanilla rules (no fifth misc slot in the inventory, no combo artifacts, no Conflux, no Sir Mullich replacing Lord Haart...) same goes for the expansions and their respective features, so you are playing the game and expansion as they were intended to be played if that's what you're worrying about.

Because if you play with the last expansion there are things that are broken - namely, in some campaigns the heroes progress' doesn't carry over and you end up with random hereos or your heroes with different items, stats, levels and skills.

There are several significant changes in HoMM 3 SoD compared to original HoMM 3 RoE. Few examples besides archangel in the menu and intro video:
1. No trench damage in HoMM 3 RoE.
2. High quality (bink) campaign videos in HoMM 3 RoE only.
3. Myth and Legend single player map.
4. Market of Time on Warmongers map in unpatched HoMM 3 RoE (interesting rudiment).
5. Fear spell in HoMM 3 RoE v1.2 (another interesting rudiment).

P.S. RoE campaigns are broken in SoD/Complete BTW.

Also, in the original game, the campaign screens in "Spoils of War" play the Neutral Campaign theme, and those in "Dungeons and Devils" and "Long Live the King" play the Evil Campaign theme; in Shadow of Death and Heroes 3 Complete, every RoE campaign screen plays the Good Campaign screen.
