Hey everyone. Just bought and downloaded the GOG version of HOMM2 yesterday and spent a few hours with it. It runs pretty well, for the most part, and doesn't give me any trouble, but there was one thing I did notice, and I wanted to ask you all about it.

The game seems a bit jerky/stuttery when I move heroes around in the world view. This is the only part of the game I've noticed any kind of lag in, and what's there isn't really game-breaking, but it is noticeable. The heroes, while moving, seem to pause for fractions of a second at strange intervals, moving quickly then slightly-less-quickly.

Like I said, it's not overpowering or gameplay-destroying, just something I noticed. So my question is this; is this simply how the original game played? I've never actually played HOMM2 before the GOG version, so if hero movement was a bit jerky when the game first came out and was run on older systems, I wouldn't know. If it ISN'T normal, does anyone have any suggestions or possible Dosbox configuration tweaks that might help?

Thanks a ton, everyone.

Seems to be an occasional problem with the Win95 CD version in XP as well. I think compatibility mode might help.

However since this is Dosbox, maybe try adding more CPU cycles? I believe it's F12 to do that while running.

I played around with cycles a bit in the configuration file; the default setting was 'max' which I tried changing to 'auto' to little noticeable effect. Still, I'll play around with it some more. Thanks for the tip!
I have this problem as well. Long time ago i had oportunity to play this game for a while. It wasnt like this. I believe that we need to play with settings.
