I just bought heroes 2 from GOG even though I have a physical copy, because hell, I didn't want to tweak around just to get it working. I thought GOG version would run just fine right away, but I suppose I was wrong.
I'm not about to flush the 10$ just like that though, hence this thread
The first issue was the sound popping issue. This is apparently fixed by the following:
quote: "I was able to fix it by changing prebuffer=100 (milliseconds) under [mixer] in dosboxhomm2.conf.
Playing around with this setting might help with some of the skipping/popping issues if none of the other suggestions (CPU etc.) do. "
(There were also suggestions about closing down all other programs when playing the game - this didn't help either.)
This didn't fix the sound issue for me, only made it worse. The game glitches sounds even more, and overall feels more sluggish. After a minute or so my computer froze, and I was forced to restart it.
I had to revert the change, and the sound glitching is back. I tried to stomach it, so I played for 15 minutes or so. At some point the game froze completely, and I once again had to restart my computer.
I've looked on the forums, but can't find any solutions....While I'm at it, I could aswell ask. Does GOG refund other games or such if you really can't get one working?
My specs:
Q9400
Radeon 5970
4gig DDR2
