Greetings:
I am getting choppy sound periodically in HOMM2. Does anyone have any ideas? I attempted to fix it using the method mentioned in the HOMM1 sound thread but unfortunately commenting out heroes2.exe and adding Setup doesn't work the same as commenting the loadfix and adding Setup in HOMM1.
I'm thinking it's DOSBox-related. I defragged my hard drive and that seemed to help (I recommend DiskTrix UltimateDefrag, 14-day trial). I think it has to do with the high quality of the music, which funnily enough was a problem back when the game was originally released. The utility I used not only defragged, but optimized file placement on the physical disc for maximum speed. I still gets momentary pauses in the music when I click on buttons and stuff.
When I first started the game I had a similar issue with the sound. Several other discussions of this issue mention that DOSbox doesn't share CPU cycles well. I make sure nothing intensive was running in the background (in my case the offenders appeared to be iTunes). After simply shutting down some programs the sound was fine.
