I've been reading about the various complications regarding the music in HoMM II. Does anyone know if there someone is working on fixing up all of that in the open-source port?
The "open source port" still requires the original game data, and as far as I know it doesn't alter the music or other audio.

Yes, I know about the fact that the original game data is still needed and that it doesn't alter the music or other audio (yet). I suppose I'm just putting it out there to the people who are interested and have the know-how to perhaps make a "perfect" version of HoMM II which includes all of the music tracks from the various editions that appeared over the years (excluding the weird version which included a track from HoMM III). It's just a thought, nobody has to do it just for me.
You can get SW and POL music from this thread. Just replace the files in your HOMM2 GOG installation.
Does this free engine have any advantage over the original?
Multiplatform, multires, general improvements. Still it is far from being finished, so we have to stay with the original version for the time being.
I can play this game on linux perfectly but for the music. I the other sounds in the game work perfectly but I hear no music.

I did the following: download both lastest engine and gog game, install gog version with playonlinux, copy the files where I put the engine, run the game. As I said before all seems to work fine but the music.

There's a readme.txt file in the music folder that has the list of tracks, I tried to change the name of the files to the name that appears in the readme but still no music.

Could anyone help?
