Just interested in what everyones favorite town is and why they like it. Mine is Fortress because they are pretty well balanced and I really like the gorgon and basilisk.
Fortress is fun to play. I also love Dungeon. And if we can speak about HoMM 5 (heretic !!!), I just love the Dark Elves. With the right choices of skills for the hero, they can become eeeeviiiil pretty quickly! :D :D
Copy/paste from another thread :
Dungeon because I feel like having 3 archers with the Harpy hags, I like the mana vortex and the portal of summoning (which can be awesome if it's wisely used). Plus Gunnar is one of my favorite hero !
Dungeon or Necropolis. I like the large amount of archers in dungeon and black dragons are just awesome. Dungeon also work really well with a destructive caster build.
Necropolis because of the ressurect the dead ability, they can get a little over powered though if you complete that undead summoner set.
Dungeon because of the three "archers" plus the other characters are either good to really good too. Get a magic user like Amar with resurrection specialty combined with three archers, and get him expert earth magic for slowing all enemies at once, and you often lose little or no soldiers, and can resurrect those that you do.
With mana vortex doubling your spell points and expert earth magic, you have plenty of mana and if you have town portal you can go home to replenish mana and be back where you started in a single turn. Amar with adv earth, town portal, dimension door, and fly is all over the map like lightning, and no matter how much mana he blows, it won't be low for long.
Fortress: Even in high difficulties (ESPECIALLY in high difficulties), you can have the wyverns week one or two and start cleaning up your neighbourood when the other players are still waiting for the wood or ore to stack up.

Rampart.
Even though they have only one shooter and a some slow units, they are quite resilient (save for pegasi). With ranger hero the survivability is even better, because they get quite often defense skill increase on level up.
And I like their town.
I've always been a fan of the Wizard/Tower/Academy-faction.
Lots of ranged units, and good magic.
Necropolis / Necromancy always and forever. If not then Knights / Haven.
Necropolis first, Tower second.
When I was kid I loved Knights, but right now Wizard is my favorite.
id have to say fortress for homm3 and for homm2 its gotta be tha knights
Wow, I'm honestly surprised to see all the love for Dungeon. For whatever reason, it is likely my least favorite town. Well, Conflux might have that honor, actually. C-flux is fast and stacks big, but they are not my style.

My personal fav. is probably Tower, followed closely by Stronghold.

Tower is expensive, but wrecks in lategame. They also have three ranged units, including the only long-range seventh-level unit. Solmyr is an absolute beast of a hero, particularly in the early stages of the game when his Chain Lightning will decimate low-level creature stacks. Make sure he gets Air Magic and Archery.

Stronghold is just cool. They set up super fast, some scenarios will get you Rocs on turn 2. Crag Hack is fun to play, with his Offense specialty. Give him Air Magic, cast haste in the first round of each battle, and proceed to mop up. Ancient Behemoths are indeed monstrous once they've had their speed buffed.

Castle, because they're straightforward to play. Marksmen are great for their level and cost, and Champions have that nice jousting bonus. Oh, and the female Castle heroes look great on the battle screen ;-)
I love european medieval achitecture and feeling of places so it's always been and will be Castle.

Yeah, stats count too ;)
