Greetings All,
I too have had problems connecting and understanding the net code of these amazing developers.
Private - GoG and Steam are connected, you may play online with your friend from GoG and your friend from Steam because it is cross-compatible. However, if your Steam friends create a private game and you are on the GoG Galaxy platform then you won't be able to be invited or able to join their game and vice-versa.
Multiplayer - The boxes on GoG representing "server list & create lobby" WILL be grayed out if you are not connected online to your own GoG account. This means I can buy HoH for me and all my friends and they may play the game if they log on my GoG account and just download it. Although, if they are on their own galaxy account before or after the fact it still will not work to go online. You must each have your own copy of the game to connect online. If you are both on one account with the purchased copy you may go online and see the server list and create lobbies but once one person does, the other person loses all online functionality.
Single Player - Enjoy the game, great developers - great community. I highly recommend hosting your own game if you know console commands to create larger lobbies than 4 players. ` g_multiplayer_limit X is the command before you hit the host button when clicking on public/private for a game. Good luck and happy mining!

Buggin - Understanding public and private game hosting, connecting, & loading.
Hosting - As a hoster you must know that anyone can start the mines and it launches in with all current connected people. It is your responsibility to enforce and stress people do not start the game until everyone is ready. There is no kick feature console command. Some people will be asshole and start a game shortly after coming in without reading. You may all leave and rehost as a solution but you will take an xp loss. If you host a game and someone joins and leaves the game before starting it, it will consume a slot that no one else will be able to fill although they may join again. So if someone does this and you create a public lobby with just enough slots for your friends you may as well re-host. I suggest creating a lobby with a leeway of 5-10, I typically love lobbies around 10 for friends and 20-30 for public. Dying and hitting the "restart" button as the host at the end of a game will make you not appear in the lobby again for fresh people to join you must rehost. If you do not the only people able to rejoin that particular game are the previous people which died and left.
Connecting / Loading - As a follower you must know if you join games and see "failed to join lobby" message instantly, you either are not connected to the internet or the limit cap of people has been reached. If you leave and try to join the same game it may leave you forever loading or joining the game and you must restart HoH. If you have one less dot (period) on a black loading screen between maps most likely you cut out and is better to alt-f4 so the rest of the people can continue. All people must join either a portal or a staircase together as a team to progress. If you leave dead people behind and progress the map without them because this is allowed they will spawn at the entrance of the next map.
