I have a Wondows 7 Starter laptop.

the game installs fine but when I try and launch it nothing happens and no error message appears.
If I open task manager the process for the game would appear in the list but would disappear in a few seconds.
How can I fix it?

Windows 7 Starter *may* be the problem, if I may be so forward as to suggest such a thing. The problem with Windows 7 Starter is that it's missing a lot of the features of a full-fledged Windows 7 install. I used to have a laptop with Windows 7 Starter and it was difficult to get anything to run on it.

Is this laptop a notebook or a netbook? In any case,please do write to our Support department and make sure to send a DxDiag along with your email. Thanks :D.

Press the Windows key + R and type DxDiag in the box that comes up.

The DxDiag file is basically a report on what your system contains such as drivers, hardware information, etc.

I have a Windows 10 desktop PC, and I'm having this same problem. I've verified the game files through GoG Galaxy, and I've got the game running in administrator mode. Nothing is happening.


UPDATE:
I went into the game folder and ran the application marked "engine", and that seemed to work.

i can confirm that for me the game also does not start from galaxy.
windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

starting the game from its folder works.

Exactly the same problem, runs from folder fine, but does not launch from Galaxy.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

So if you launch it from the top level you are launching the old version of the game without a special patch, if you look at the Launch alias, you see it launches startengine.exe from the Data folder, which I was unable to launch, but when I right-clicked and choose launch as admin, it worked.

So my next step is to get properties of StartEngine.exe (read readme for info about the patch), under Compatibility choose Run this program as an adminstrator.

Have you guys tried starting twice?


I click start game once, nothing happens, and it goes to task manager.

I click startup the game again, and boom, plays.


A few of gog games I got requires me to start the game twice in a row to get it to play. I have no clue why. Not sure if that helps you or not.

Try to lauch the game by using the .exe file on the root directory, instead of using the "Play" button on the gog client. For some reason, the button doesn't work with me, but I can still play by doing the aforementioned procedure.

Hello I use a Win 10 Pro Laptop and installed the game and it doesnt start.

If i go to the game directory and start the HeroesOfAE.exe
i can choose the frame refresh rate but then i get an error message that the engine.exe couldnt start (0xc0000022)

i tried compabillity modes and run as admin

EDIT: i got it running :D
