Yes, it can be played offline without a problem. I'm using the gog offline installers myself and it's working perfectly.
As for the single player campaign - it's not implemented yet, you can only choose individual fights against a CPU or a human opponent or play the "Survival" mode. The AI is split into 3 categories:
- passive
- manouverable
- aggressive
The computer opponent will fight differently depending on which one you choose. I suspect it will get more intelligent in the final release, but it's still pretty decent already.
Definitely playable.
