...is there any way to disable the fog of war...I am trying to play as Italy and it would help me cooridinate my effort to backstab Germany if I could see what France/Britan were up in Western Europe.

For which game?

IIRC for Darkest Hour you just have to press F12 to open the console and then write nofog.

WWI....silly me....Thanks JJAC4 for the input...I suppose that I could try that for WWII as well....
