Hi,

Haven started off quite interesting and fun, the voices are charming too, although I'm playing with German subtitles. More and more I found it difficult to follow the air currents (especially on Bename). I rarely succeed in drifting.

Now that I have unlocked a new island behind Bename, a huge whale appears, which I cannot yet defeat. In the walkthrough I saw that this whale was apparently harmless at first (a pet I can ride) - but I didn't have this passage.

Now I can't go back to the nest or further, because the boss wipes me out every time. He appears on every Island backwards.

I find the jump from easy fights to absolutely impossible fights very harsh and unfair. I also don't manage to heal or use the medipack (+300) regularly during the fight. I'm afraid I'll have to start again. Have I missed something?

As it is, I can't avoid the whale. It appears by chance. Since winning is impossible, I let myself be slain as quickly as possible so that the fight doesn't take so long. No matter whether I fight or not - in the end I end up in the picnic area.
This boss makes exploration tedious and lengthy. If you had the option to avoid the fight, it would still be fair - because I wouldn't attack a monster if my strength wasn't yet enough. So it's an annoying chicanery that adds hours to the game (I had the fight three times within a few hours...).
In what difficulty are you playing ?

I don't remember having issues with that fight... the only difficult fights I encountered where near the end of the game.

Just remember to constantly switch the character who is defending during the fights, so to give time to the other shield to recharge.
The level of difficulty is "normal". What is annoying is that I cannot avoid the battle. It can happen that when I enter an island I am immediately thrown into the fight. Even if the island could already be entered dozens of times without problems; the encounters are apparently random. Fleeing is not possible. There were also sometimes advance warnings - an earthquake, where the dialogue was to leave as quickly as possible After that, the island was "off limits", so to speak; the next time I visited, the whale was always there. But the warning doesn't always come. I can only use a "Previous" save to retrieve a previous game state. Otherwise, after about 20 minutes of fighting, I at least get to the red section of the monster's life bar. That's already progress - a few days ago I only managed half of it...My points are now at 300. My duo weapons are plenty levelled up, but the flood weapons are not as effective as I had hoped.

It's possible that I'm not even using a lot of the finer points of combat properly. Thanks for the tip with the shields. So far I haven't found a way to heal early either - when my characters are almost "dead" there is an offer to heal - but not before. That's just enough for the next two or three monster attacks. Apparently I can't use items from the backpack...?

Mm, this forum doesn't want jpgs for upload...

I played the game some time ago, so I don't remember the right names for menu and objects, but i'll try to explain how it works.

If for "flood weapons" you mean the ones that hit all the enemies at the same time, remember that there are two kind of attacks, some monsters are immune to one of them, but very sensitive to the other one.
This rule works the same for the melee and shooting attack, you just need to find out what is the most effective attack for every specific enemy.

The only way to heal during combat is using pills, but you must create them in the ship.

The food and healing stuff in the backpack can be used only in the ship and in camping areas.... but most of the time you can just leave the couple standing still so they starts kissing regaining some health.
Thanks.

Yes, I have to synthesise these flood weapons in the nest, I need plenty of rust (the German word is „Rost“) for that. I always have a maximum of five of each weapon, the healing balm and the speed tool.

A few hours ago I reached one of the swamp islands, where a Birble variant freed from rust took me, and there I hit two snakes that cost me about 170 of 300 health points. When I left the island to save, the whale promptly caught me on the other side without warning. With only 130 points it was senseless to fight, so I just watched the battle. At least that way I would be beamed to a campsite or the nest afterwards.

I think that's a pretty unfair way to go about it.

It's a pity that I can't upload screenshots or use picture-links - I have a lot...

Yes, I use the German translated version, so I don't know the English names for all the stuff. I hope, my English is good enough to understand......

In the end, I have now managed the whale (Beruberu). The fight lasted about 30 minutes and I used up all the flood items I had (2 each) and also all the healing packs from the backpack. The rechargeable flood weapons didn't seem that effective to me - I'll probably just have to work with the duo weapons, because they do up to 200 points of damage, the others only about 60. The monster's red bar just wouldn't and didn't get any shorter. Or I'm doing something wrong... After that I couldn't leave the island to save yet (because the flood bridges weren't unlocked and the return bridge I can't reach), so I had to fight two more enemies until the island was completely cleared. That was tight... After that I could take the birble taxi. In the nest I then had just 9 of 300 life points left....

It was one of the longest fights so far in all games ever (except Final Fantasy...).

OK... I would also have come to the campsite if I had lost...

By the way: about every 15-20 times the game crashes when saving. The last save point created is damaged and cannot be loaded. It is good that "Haven" has five previous save points - I then only need to overwrite the current "Haven" folder with a previous state. Of course, the last achievements are then gone. That's why I save VERY often, which means that I have to fly back and forth between the islands very frequently.

After an achievement or a long successful battle, I always leave the island...

I now have two remaining islands with very strong bosses. They are a "gorilla" and another monster, mostly the scorpion's tail or spider, which always have to be killed (summoned) one after the other before leaving the island. Otherwise they will both be back. So far I haven't managed it yet.

Of course, I could fly away with the nest and leave the rust as it is. But I suppose it has a positive effect when I have cleaned EVERYTHING?

In the last islands you can't remove the rust, and for the better, since after you have cleaned everything them are the only source for materials.

Thank you.

There is a warning before I leave with the Nest that I won't be able to go back. So I assume I won't be entering these islands again and may have to make do with the rust I have.

The islands are red with rust, but they have the normal rust spots that can be harvested. So it could be that the islands would be clean after defeating the monsters - but the rock would still be bright red...

That was also possible with the already cleaned rusty islands: Birble could land there even though the rock is completely blotched red - and the symbol is marked as "clean".

That's why I believe that the two islands are "clean" when all rust spots have been harvested, even if the area remains fiery red.

I'm not sure what THAT is on the mountain - but the red one looks very, very nasty and dangerous. You might be able to get there, but so far I've always fallen off when gliding - there are nasty turns in the flow.
I went there, and If I remember well that's just an house, I'm not sure if contains something or if it was just an additional story dialog.
I will try to get on the mountain next time. We'll see...It looks like one of the "rusty" angry animals.

I guess it's not supposed to end up there, because every flow, as hard as I try, breaks off before it does.
