I have the same problem with v1.4.2... :-(
It seems to happen when loading a checkpoint that immediately enters combat mode (in contrast to checkpoints where the player enters the map overview).
Does anybody have a workaround to make the HUD reappear again? Otherwise it's impossible to continue the campaign.

I found a workaround.
When the HUD is missing after loading a checkpoint, just loose the fight and make a restart of the mission. The HUD is visible again.
