I am broke and gathering money, so i can buy this masterpiece of a game! Meanwhile, i am even trying to go through Titan Quest Gold and beat it thoroughly, inside out. Following Grim Dawn, i read things like:
1) It is the spiritual successor of Titan Quest.
2) It feels like Titan Quest.
3) It plays like Titan Quest.
4) It is similar to Titan Quest.
5) It is like an updated, remastered Titan Quest with new story in another world.

Well, while playing Titan Quest, i noticed some things that rather troubled me. Of course, i didn't downright hated them or found them annoying, they simply forced me to struggle through the game, that's all. What i noticed in Titan Quest:
1) Acts are not balanced concerning space (areas, maps), time needed to complete them, quests and length of story.
2) Acts 3 and 4 especially are extremely long, to the point that they can be a drag, leading you to force yourself through the game.
3) Pets, after chapter 2, in NORMAL, are pretty useless; even with maxed tree, they die with 1-3 attacks from a mob pack or single strong enemy. Like a simple hydragon sneezing once on your fully maxed lich king and killing him INSTANTLY!
4) Typhon/endgame boss is so unfairly strong, that you have to use the staircase and right pillar column trick!
5) Long story short, Normal difficulty is neither balanced, nor equaled. Feels like being half-assed.

My question is thus:

Is Grim Dawn in any way, concerning this specific feature, in any way similar to Titan Quest, at all???
This question / problem has been solved by Gremlionimage
Grim Dawn was in beta for a long time, and got much bigger time played than Titan Quest before release, it's much more balanced.
I participated since alpha,so:
1,2 Hard to say, the only annoying moment in TQ for me was the travelling within great wall.
Anyway, in GD mobs are packed more densely than in TQ.
Another moment - base movement speed in GD is higher than in TQ, so you move faster overall. (plus, in vanilla TQ Hermes' sandals were disabled, in GD you get two MS marks to put into boots)
There are quite a lot of skippable things if you want to progress faster (you can skip whole act 1)
3. Pets in GD on normal are quite good, there are a lot of items for pokemonmaster, Devotion (wasn't in TQ) gives a lot of boosts.
Compared to TQ, amount of summoned allies is lower (nature had 4 wolves and 2 nymphs with +allskills, IIRC), but they are much stronger.
4.Strong Typhoon? oh, maaan... Slow, with obvious telegraphic attacks, surrounded by shrines... The only strong moment in him were thorns, which reflect your dps back.
Endboss for GD, when boss was released, was WTF OP, and got 3 or 4 toning down iterations since then.
(I saved up all resistance items, ended up with 70+ allres to his damage and was twoshotted in a sec)
Considering that on normal you can reach him without placing materias into items, without applying augments and crafting oils, endboss can be felt somewhat unfair, but if you start thinking, it's an ok challenge.

Haha, just like me who rushed through Normal. FD's last boss was the only oss where I used corpse-zerg tactics extensively.

I am getting more and more intrigues by Titan Quest, i still never played it, I am waiting when it is finally released on GOG.

Also i didn't dinf GD to be that much long - it is less or more on par with D2 without expansion. Game ended quite abruptly, I thought I had couple more dungeons ahead of me, but suddenly I found myself fighting last boss. But from what I see this game has quite a number of optional super-bosses and 2 super-dungeons + some other optional quests + crafting system.

Counter-question, does TQ have any kind of crafting system?

Game is intended to get couple of addons which would extend the game (Crate posted some maps about planned for full game\planned for initial release)
TQ got crafting system in expansion Immortal throne, you could make relics there.

Yeah, those artifacts are a great thing. Shroud of the Eternal Night works wonders on my Diviner!

I'm running a pet build and currently @ L41 in Act 3 (Normal). My pets make mincemeat out of everything! By the time you combine the actual skills off the class trees, the bonuses from equipment and equipment modifications, and the bonuses from the devotion system, you can really fine-tune your character to exactly match your playstyle.

The only drawback is that, just like TQ, sometimes it takes forever to get the right piece of equipment to drop to replace one you've been hanging on to for ten levels. :)

Ah not really... In act 3 if you do boss runs (like the big yeti), you get wonderful equipment. Even bone piles in caves dropped me greens and blues.

It's not the color of the drops, it's getting the specific set of stats you want on the equipment. I've tossed hundreds of pieces because they're not useful for this build. That's always been an issue with these types of games. I'd rather the drops were less (fewer trips to town to sell), but skewed more towards dropping items that enhance the skills you've picked. Quality (in terms of utility) over quantity is my preference. :) My shared stash is full of blues that are parts of sets I'm hanging on to for potential other characters later, but don't do the current one any good.
Did you buy it yet? I've wound up with two keys because of reasons. You're welcome to one of them if it's still in your wishlist.

Ah, thanks a lot! I am still gathering money, i only played it on an internet cafe. I would love to get it, but i feel bad, really bad, i hate taking something without giving something back, at least outside giveaways... Thanks a lot!

If you could really spare that one key, i would be really grateful to you!

Sent via what I assume is GOG's idea of a PM (conversation from your user name). Enjoy the incessant clouds of green goo and meat.
