I am from Poland, a country where Gothic is worshipped and people constantly meme about it. So i decided to play it. I bought it a year ago but i abandoned it after some time because i got tired. Why tf am i supposed to run errands for random NPC's so that the guard captain in Old Camp lets me in? That's like the antithesis of fun. I understand that's why some people love it so much, because back in the day there were no map markers and games required you to think, but this is too much. I am enjoying Morrowind (on Steam, not here) way more than this game and they are a year apart. I know they had more budget, but Morrowind is better in almost every aspect except for less voice acting, maybe.

So i am ashamed to use a guide to get through that boring part of the game but i can't be bothered to carry on with it.

Sounds like role playing game games are not the thing for you.

Baldur's Gate. Fallout 1. Fallout 2. Planescape Torment. Loved all of them.

Who am i kidding, you didn't even read my post since i mentioned explicitly i am enjoying Morrowind on Steam.

Did you try Risen 1 ? It's a similar game but more polished. They also have a good map and a good story, quest etc.
For me Risen 1 is one of my favorite games.. I do have Gothic 1 played it for a couple of hours so I can't really comment on that game until I complete it.

Not every game is for everybody. You should probably just watch some reviews or gameplay videos just to be sure if you like the game

i experienced this game for the first time sometime this May and finished it in June, took me a total of 4 weeks or so.
i believe that first few chapters are the best, at par or even better than anything that Morrowind has to offer, but the progression goes downhill after chapter 3 as you are railroaded towards the finale.. the prisonbreak setting is somewhat novel and i enjoyed that while it lasted.

I feel that you havent explored the game world the way it was intended, the first few chapters are generously open-ended and instill a truly unique sense of adventure. Maybe you should restart and experience the first few chapters with a curious mindset and probably breeze through the later chapters as fast as possible.

It doesn't matter that Gothic is beloved game in Poland. You don't need to automatically enjoy it, just because you're Polish.

As for the first chapters, the main character is basically nobody and no one will treat him seriously until you earn people's respect. This sometimes means doing tedious chores, but once you earn the respect and get stronger you will have that sense of progression that you managed to somehow crawl out of that rough beginning and in some cases you can get your revenge of those that tried to take advantage of you at the start. The early part of the game is simply a good representation of a prison colony, which is brutal at times, especially for the new guys.

So what you are saying is that this is the first and best version of prison simulator?

I'd say no to that as there are no wardens or actual guards. It's an asylum run by the inmates. My favorite group was in the swamp; my least favorite, the new camp.

The closest i got to that was chronicles of riddick escape from butcher bay.. played it in 2007 at my uncles house, just got to sample the game for a 2-3 hours.. never got the opportunity to finish it. somehow i was yearning for this title a year back.. and its not available anywhere unless youre okay with ebay.

All those weeks later and this comment still bothers me. I mean,i clearly stated i like Morrowind. Does disliking Gothic make me not an RPG fun when i enjoyed BG and so many others? That's like saying, 'you dont like CSGO so FPS games are just not for you'

The magic and success of the Gothic games lies in it's rough interpretation of the "From Zero to Hero" trope. In other RPG-games it's often just about starting with zero respect and earning it over time. In Gothic, you don't start as a "Zero", you start as a "Minus One" in a darwinistic world. You got bullied and beaten up by other characters; you are just prey for them. Same goes with the wild life - even flies can kill you in seconds. But after some adventures and leveling, the prey becomes the hunter of the hunters. You can return to those characters, who robbed and beat you, and then YOU can beat, rob and kill them. It is probably no accident that in Gothic 1 it is all those bullying characters from the old camp, you are going to kill later in the game, and in Gothic 2 it is mainly the bullys from Onars Farm, you will kill in a later chapter.
And yes, I can image, why a game like Gothic is beloved in Poland with it's tragic history and it's since then everlasting wish for strength and respect. Even that wouldn't be an explanation, why the Gothic games are also beloved (and were made) in Germany, whose inhabitants have completely given up any seek for strength. ...but you can also trade in Gothic. Germans love to trade.

I mean you still can't properly describe why you even like Morrowind, because those few pointers in your OP why you dislike Gothic also fit for Morrowind.
