Installed it earlier, along with the community patch, but for whatever reason the game does not want to come up on my screen. I can hear it loading just fine (PiranhaBytes intro etc.), but the process stays minimised and does not want to go full screen.

Any ideas?
Gothic 3 generates a cache file the first time you run it--that's probably what you're seeing happen. The generation process can take several minutes. Once it is finished you should regain full control. The cache file is kept between sessions so this delay isn't repeated after that.

Thanks for the reply Arkose, I'll try it again later and let you know.
Gothic 3 works on my laptop that uses Windows 8.1 with almost no problem, besides some textures popping in and out of existence but that's probably a sign that I need to upgrade my graphics card more than anything else.
OK, I managed to get the game to work.

For whatever reason it was not working with Windows 8 compatibility mode, so I set it in Windows 7 compatibility and would still not work. As soon as I set it again in Windows 8, it worked flawlessly.

I then installed the 1.74 community patch and use ra 1.75 ge.ini file to fix the DOF, but text and sound would not work. Thankfully I remembered there was a 1.75 community patch released as well, so after re-installing the game, everything works flawlessly.

For future reference, GOG integrated version 1.74 of the community patch into their installer. If you re-install Gothic 3 again you will only need to install version 1.75 of the community patch.
