Ok, I've tried both the straight from GOG version and also patched to1.08k_mod version. I can keep neither one running for any length of time since I can't do anything.

Each time I start the game it runs for a bit then starts switching between windowed and fullscreen over and over. It makes it really hard just to exit the game, nevermind actually play anything because have to keep clickign the window for it to go back in focus and fullscreen, then keyboard through the menu and exit before it does it goes windowed again.

Win7 64
nVida GTX 470 x2 SLI

Also is there any way to get the Gothic to quit violating my computer's settings and leave the state of my NumLock and Insert keys alone? Honestly, that has always been considered something you do not touch or restore the state of on exit? Even when this game was new there was years of accepted practice on handling those keys already.

It sounds like there's a problem with the resolution or refresh rate the game tries to use. Have you tried setting a different resolution? You can try forcing your resolution if a suitable one isn't listed within the game itself. Gothic should see your refresh rate automatically but it if doesn't you can try forcing it from the Nvidia Control Panel.

If none of that works SLI might be the problem; some older games don't work properly on SLI (I'm not sure whether Gothic is one of them). If setting the proper resolution doesn't work you could try adding Gothic to the SLI exceptions in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Eventually got it working. Well, all except for the Piranha Bytes intro video.

I can get it to run by first going to the install folder and finding eithr Gothic.exe (as installed) or GothicMod.exe (if the community patch, texturepatch, player kit) are installed and creating a shortcut first.

Shortcut needs to be run as admin, disable themes, disable composition. Launch once from said shortcut.

Then use the same batch file advice from the sticky to force the resolution.

Game then starts for me as full screen and the Piranha Bytes video plays but all black. Once in the game the remaining videos appear to play and are scaled correctly. DisableScaling option in the ini did not work for me.

Using the above steps it only seems to jump to windowed occasionally right during that very first Logo video. If it does so at this point I ALT+TAB to another window then click the icon on taskbar and it'll stay fullscreen for that session. If I click directly back into the window first it appears to still jump out but not nearly as often as before setting the compatibility options. I also tried disabling the logo videos, but then the remaining in game videos would not play unless scaling was disabled. So not really an option (rather see the remaining videos and have them scale than worry about the logo in the beginning).

Disable video scaling in gothic.ini and you should be able to see the videos.
