Why are some NPCs' names in full CAPS?

Uh... Can you post a few examples? Either I've never experienced this or don't remember it. AFAIK, no NPC in Gothic should be allcapsed.

(This is probably a mistake in translation. But can't say surely, definitely till you give the examples.)
I think you're talking about VINO, FERNANDO, BROMOR... It's something added by the expansion, maybe a little help to players to complete one quest, even if that quest was already in Gothic 2 original.

[SPOILER ALERT]

In fact all the npcs whit CAPS LOCk name are involved in a quest for the Fire Mage: they were all possessed by the Seekers and so they have an Almanac of the Possessed in their inventory.
