I've been trying to narrow down how obliviate is useful.

It costs 100 gold to buy an obliviate scroll, and 5 mana to use it.

Since it affects one target- for the purposes of making them talk normally to you again this is equivalent to paying out 50 gold pieces to Lord Andre (or Lee? Haven't caused problems at Onar's yet so haven't tested).

In other words in Khorinis (and probably at Onar's?) obliviate scrolls are effectively useless in that they're limited AND more expensive than simply paying the fee.

So there are two possibilities I see that involve me being incorrect here:

1 - It's for dealing with NPCs that get angry at you but are not affiliated with Khorinis/Onar's and thus cannot simply be paid off to deal with them again.

2 - Perhaps the situation can escalate beyond what I've seen? Thus far I've come to the conclusion that 'one person angry = 50 gold' but maybe this isn't always true?

===

What is your conclusion?

Even if four people see you and the fine is much higher, you'd have to use four scrolls and, oh, the timing! I think they are not such a good thing (I don't use them).
Okay, I think I found an example of an NPC who probably isn't governed by any of the 3 communities.

Sagitta.

She gives a great 400 experience for beating but she's also angry afterwards and quite a useful person to be on the good side of.

Going to say so far I think Oblivion is useful for these types.

Still, if anyone has any more info, always welcome.
It should be better when, for example, you kill someone. Then the fine is much higher (1000 gold, I think), but when just one witness saw you, why not to charm him?

Ohhhh!

I never kill people I don't have to so I haven't come across this yet!

EDIT: Actually, looking back at my original post apparently both 1 and 2 were correct! :D
