very annoying. you can hear everything going on in the movies, but the screen is just blank (black)

Disabling anti aliasing in the games options is meant to fix the movies.
there isnt an antialiasing option in gothic 2. certainly not one thats obvious at least.
care to tell me which menu its in?
there is a workaround by editing the ini file and setting the scalevideos option to 0 instead of 1.
not ideal though.
Perhaps its in the .ini or config file is there zVidEnableAntiAliasing=1 in either? if so set the 1 to a 0
edit: You could also force anti aliasing off on your video card using your cards options and see if that helps.

that option is present in the gothic.ini file (same file i used the scalevideos workaround), its already set to 0 though.
:/
whats the downside of scalevideos option workaround?

Ralackk: whats the downside of scalevideos option workaround?

the downside is that the movies are very small on a monitor thats using a large resolution.
if youve got the game set to 1600x1200 or higher then be prepared to sit a bit closer to the screen to watch the videos.
at 1280x1024 its a bit like watching a video on the psp. perfectly watchable but you still notice the big black borders etc.
Did you try forcing Anti aliasing off using your video card options to see if that worked?

yup i tried that. without the scalevideos workaround the videos are still blank even when AA is forced off.
The only other solutions from the jo wood forums are to update graphics drivers or roll them back but those are 30.xx and 40.xx nvidia so we are way past that solution.
The other is that video codecs could be messing with your video but if you can actually see them when scaled thats probably not it either.
I would advise getting incontact with Gog's tech support if the video scaling solution work around you found isn't suitable. I've personally run out of idea's.
Right click the game shortcut and choose run as administrator. Worked for me when I had the same problem.

nope that didnt work either. :/
ill put up with the smaller videos using the scalevideos=0 workaround.
i dont think there are many videos anyway in the game. would have liked it perfect but.....

I actually had to use both to make mine work but good that you got them working. They look better in original size anyways, not so many opportunities than to pinpoint the age of the game. :P
Neither workaround worked for me.
I have Vista 64bit, a 5800+ AMD dual-core processor, a Geforce 9800 GTX, 4 gigs of RAM, and all of those parts no one cares about.
This problem bothers me.
Can someone please tell me how I can save my Gothic.ini file in my notepad. I feel like such a noob but the error message I'm getting is that the path or file name is incorrect but in this case it isn't. Thanks!
